Hey guys. I've recently had a big streak of RPG's, and have been playing some of the older FF's on my phone. (Finished V and VI).

I never realized that I had access to VII, VII and IX before. I haven't had the pleasure of playing any of these games, though I've played X and XII.

I know everyone will run in here and scream VII, but I don't really know why. It looks kind of cool, but I'm wondering about it. Anyways, which of these three has the most customization options? I don't necessarily like to be given a character with a defined skillset and just play with it. I really enjoy customizing my characters class, skills, and abilities. (Or which characters to use).

So which one would you recommend? VIII seems intriguing since it's unique, but how is the customizing? And IX looks kiddy, but I love Dragon Quest VIII and I would gladly play an old school, solid RPG.

So what do you guys think?

I played them all in order with the exception of 12 &13, because I still haven't played 12. With that being said I recently went through them all too except I didn't get a chance to do 9 or 10 again. I remember extremely fond memories of 9 and I myself need to pick it up but I already have 7,8,& T on PSN. I don't think you can go wrong but 9 is my favorite out of those...well maybe Tactics if you're interested.

Played tactics and loved it. Also played tactics advance and sunk a ton of hours into the game.

How is customization in IX? Do you get set characters as the story progresses that you can't really do much with except change their equipment? Or is there real character shaping? I guess I like more customizable games because it gives them more replay value, I can play one style with one type of party and play the game later with another strategy in mind.

From memory, all 3 of them are set roles. But everyone can use magic. I love the materia system in 7, 8's draw system was ok, but the magic used used to boost stats etc

Well they are all three good games soI would reccomend playing all of them. With that said the most customization you're going to get is in FFVIII. The system in that game is called the junction system and you get GF's (Summoned monsters) that allow you to equip and use certain abilities.

Wait since when did they put FF 5 and 6 on the phone? They're only available via gba. Anyways all the FF games are great so get them in order and ignore everybody else's biased suggestions: Get FF 7, then FF 8, and finally FF 9. If you want you COULD get TActics but it has a MUCH better remake on the PSP

All three games feature characters geared towards certain roles, but IX does this to a further extent than the other two. So I'd recommned that least (though it is still a fantastic game), and due to what is, in my humble opinion, a frustrating system for magic in VIII due to drawing, I'd say VII is the best choice*. It is easy to mix and match setups with materia whenever you see fit, and any character can serve any role with minimal differences in strength.

*Disclaimer: Final Fantasy VII is also probably my favorite game ever, if that makes you discount my opinion.

they are all different here are my personal views and then ill tell you which one interests who VII: the only mediocer final fantasy, many plotholes on the disc 2 and clouyd goes from one of the best charecters ever to the most whiney and useless charecter ever in seconds VIII: this one is the opposite from VII, instead of starting out amazing and going into obscurity, this one starts out mediocerly and then goes into being amazing. just grudge throught he first disc and you get a great game IX: its a odd one. its realy jumpy on quality. first 2 discs are amazing and then the 3rd is iffy. it picks up speed at the end but no one develops on the 3rd disc with the exception of garnet(heads up when you get to decideher name, dont pick dagger, she keeps that name for the rest of the game despite the giant plopthole becouse of it. make sure her name stays garnet) overall its a great game but again like VIII its iffy who likes what VII: if your into sci-fi and futuristic setting. the game is very futuristic everywhere and has kinda heavy sci-fi influeence VIII: this has a heavy sci-fi influence but if you like esploration then tis is your game. this one has the most content for the psone era IX: this story is 90% charecter driven and is a hemorrhage to the classic FF's regardless of which you pick first i suggest getting them all eventualy. ecpecialy VIII
