Well since GTA IV comes out before MGS 4 GTA has more hype from me.
After I get GTA IV then MGS 4 will have more hype from me.:P
Metal Gear 4 doesnt look as exciting as the first one use to be. 4 looks more like watching a movie most of the time and then play here adn there for a little bit.
GTA4 will be bigger. I will get both.
GTAIV has a lot more hype. I'm really looking forward to MGS4 because the story is so well done, not just the graphics and gameplay.
Also the original poster saying MGS4 needs to sell one million units on day one has been cited as a misquote and taken out of context by Ryan Payton on the Kojima Produtions Report a few times.
Hype and popularity are completely different things. Sure, GTAIV is more popular, being multiplatform and coming out sooner. In terms of hype though, I say MGS4. Considering the type of game MGS4 is, and that I would say there is more info and video footage available for it than there is on GTAIV, should say something to the level of hype. Right this moment I guess GTAIV may win out, simply because it's so close to release, but overall in the past 2-3 months, I would point to MGS4.
Also, GTAIV is just another game, there will be a GTAV and it will be hyped as well. The fact that a game series as complex as MGS has the level of popularity and following that a game as mindless, repetitious and "immature" playtype as GTA is (it's fun, but clearly targeted as a casual game for people that want to kill other people...honestly, it's not the most thought provoking series) shows how great the MGS series really is.
No offense to anyone here, but from what I read most of the time, the type of people that are looking forward to GTAIV much more than any other game, are also the ones that have a feigning interest or complete disdain for MGS4. It seems that it's the type of people that have specific interests in games, such as only enjoying shooters and sports games (in other words, VERY mainstream series, ie., CoD4, DMC4, Madden, GTAIV, etc.). I am not saying there is anything wrong with this, I am just saying how it appears to me.
MGS has become fairly mainstream, which is another testament to how good the series is, because the type of game is definitely not mainstream and it has won over people from it's quality. I have a feeling a lot of the people that don't like it have never really played it more than a couple of hours. I especially feel this way when I hear comments (not from this thread) about "15 hours of cutscenes and 3 hours of gameplay" or "the story is stupid and makes no sense" or "the entire game is homo-erotic." These type of people give a lot of people a bad name, because almost everytime it's coming from someone emphatically hyping GTAIV. I do realize, however, that there are people that have played all the MGS games and didn't like them or thought they were ok, but that is the minority when it comes to people posting.
All this being said, I do want to make clear that I like the GTA series a lot, and will be buying GTAIV. I didn't like SA, but IV seems to be heading back in a good direction, getting rid of the pointless stuff from SA and adding in what seems like a really cool multiplayer and a much needed more serious storyline/gameplay.
MGS4 is the last in it's series. It will probably be really, really good. But I will get GTAIV because I've played the GTA series, and there quit good.DEF-JAM
Well both are amazing games...But its just that MGS games are my fav games of all time...I meen i like finished mgs2 like over 10 times easily in every difficulty and unlocked all the things with the dog tags...The story is amazing and confusing! AWESOMENESS!!!!!
