The thing isn't called the "official" ps3 headset for no good reason.

From the product description:

  • High-Quality (HQ) mode that delivers clear and wideband online voice chat and supports 'voice command' for select games.
  • Dual-microphone design for high-quality noise cancellation with supported games on the PS3™ system.
  • Supplied charging cradle connected to the headset works as a desktop microphone while charging.
  • Automatic pairing with the PS3™ system via a USB cable.
  • Exclusive game indicator screen on the PS3™ system displays connection status, battery charge level, speaker volume level and microphone muting status.
  • Easily accessible mic muting button.
  • Compact, sleek and ergonomic design fits comfortably on either ear.

The HQ/Hihg bandwidth mode with the PS3 is exclusive to this headset only.

The battery indicator on screen is also exclusive.

The desktop mic features reduces the need for you to actually wear it in a close range, especiailly convenient for those of us who play our games with headphones.

The large mute button is also more much convenient for game use (where as other headsets usually require to do a 2 button press combo to mute) .

That being said, I personally use the Jabra BT3030 ( http://www.jabra.com/sites/jabra/uk-uk/products/pages/jabrabt3030.aspx )

Honestly, any headset would do fine. The playstaion Underground forum has a wonderful topic on bluetooth headsets:

Socom one is one of the best. For one it's compatible with your PS3 and is detected right off the bat. It tells you when you're connected and when you're disconnected so you don't ever have to pause a game to check. You can mute your mic which is VERY useful at times especially if your gaming space has people coming in and out. The sound quality even without HQ mode is amazing definately one of the best and with HQ mode it sounds even more clear and crisp it's amazingly good. It comes with a docking charger which you can use as a mic if you're charging your headset and it makes it harder to lose. Last but not least it's VERY comfortable it fits perfectly in my ear and feels good even for long uses I'd give the mic a 9/10 for sure its better than the warhawk one.
