If you are talking about a wireless router, both will be able to communicate as fast as your internet connection. Wired is more reliable and faster for lan traffic, but your internet probably won't ever get up to that speed anyways. Wired is best, but it won't make your internet connection faster.guynamedbilly
Agreed, I'm wireless and haven't had any major issues but if you can go wired....do it.
The farther your PS3 is away from a wireless router, the weaker the signal gets, and therefore the slower the speed. A good broadband internet connection is quite a bit faster than the PS3 requires, so even a loss of signal strength due to distance / obstructions should still leave you with plenty of speed at the PS3. But if you've got slower internet, and you slow it down some more by putting the PS3 a long ways from the wireless router, it could create a problem. In which case wired would be the way to go. It's just very inconvenient if you have to drill holes in walls and floors to run the cable.
The wireless signal coming from your router travels at the speed of light. What slows your stuff down is how much interference there is between your router and your PS3, type of router you have (N, G, their speeds, range, settings, etc), and so on. Don't be thrown off by the measure of the incoming signal either, the number your PS3 shows for your wireless signal. That's just a measure of the signal strength, and doesn't have a thing to do with it's power. Even if it says 20%, all that number means is that your connected to it.
A better question is how fast is fast enough for you going wireless. Set it up, and if you see over 3Mbps download, 700Kbps upload, I'd say that's plenty fast for gaming via a wireless connection. If you download demo's, movies, etc off of the PSN, then clearly the faster the better. Connect it wired and see what the difference is. I usually hover around 18-20Mbps wireless, but that's because of my router, and Time Warner out here offers an up to 30Mbps connection.
Wired I guess, but it sure is annoying if you're far away from the router (I used to use a wire before I got wireless).

There's quite a large difference between wired and wireless for me....

Wired is much faster for me than wireless.

That's not totally accurate, if your wireless router is receiving a 100% signal then it's pretty much the same.
My PS3 is literally less than 10 feet from the router (I'm not sure what the exact signal % is, never bothered to check) but the connection speed difference is very significant.

id say most likely you have a bad and/or defective router.. wired/wireless should not make a difference as far as speed is concerned, just stability.[QUOTE="StealthMonkey4"]

it is accurate...the wireless NIC on the ps3 is rated @ 54mbps while the gigabit ethernet port on the ps3 is rated @ 1gbps so wired is much faster than wireless...they're not the same[QUOTE="StealthMonkey4"][QUOTE="MarcRecon"]

Well, all I can say is that I have little to no problems with lag and that my download times for demos and vids are about the same as friends of mine who are wired. Logically wired is SLIGHTLY more stable but if the TC has no choice but to go wireless then he/she shouldn't loose any sleep over it.
