If your favorite MGS game was for example MGS2 Subsistence then choose MGS2 :)
Just been playing through MGS4 recently and it's an epic experience, but I still think MGS3 is the best game of the series.

I see votes but no comments :(
Why do you prefer the MGS that you do.
I prefer MGS3 because I felt the pacing of the game, the way the story unfolded and the jungle setting was kick ass.
Also, Metal Gear Solid 3 has what could possibly be the greatest ending in gaming history.
I've never actually played the original. I bought it second hand about 11 years ago and it didnt work :\ Never got around to playing it :(The original, for some strange reason I always find myself coming back to it.

My first was MGS2, great memories. I actually only played through snake eater one time, but beat Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 multiple times. I've only beaten MGS4 once, great game, "Here's to you" is an amazing song, had some great moments, but MGS2 still reigns supreme.
The first one. There's just something really special about it. The others are great, but the first just brings back the best memories. It's why Shadow Moses in 4 was one of my favorite gaming moments ever.
3,since it was something you could play through without getting bored, and it had the right amount of gameplay and cutscenes in it(not like MGS4,which is about 3-5 hours long without cutscenes),I already beat MGS3 10 times.
3 was also the first MGS game I had(exluding PO+),but I can't play it anymore since I bought the subsistence version and gave Snake Eater to a friend, the subsistence version freezes and I only have the first disk. Now i'll have to buy another subsistence version,or wait for the remake.
My personal favorite is MGS4, because the story was amazing and everything about it was epic. I've been a fan of MGS ever since the beginning, and MGS4 was, in my opinion, a great way to end the tale of Solid Snake.

Yes, I'd have to go 4 also. But I never played any of the others all the way through. I need to sometime.
It's a lot more evenly spread than I thought! :) MGS1 for me. Amazing bosses, great setting, great story. Plus it's where the whole thing started! I've played them all and 1 is the only one I can recall almost every part of the game.xsynth
Im just glad MGS1 is getting some decent lovin'
in terms of gameplay MGS4, in terms of environment MGS2, in terms of story MGS3 and in terms of innovation Im gonna have to go with MGS1 so yeah the original wins for me.
The first Metal Gear Solid holds the most sentimental value for me, however, MGS 4 was the first and only game to make me cry. Yes, I cried playing a video game....don't judge me!
When Big Boss saluted at the end of 3... that was epic, that action spoke louder than any words the game offered.
But then again so was the final chase scene from 1, the harrier fight in 2, Rex vs. Ray in 4. Why do you gotta make me choose?
Without giving to much away, MGS4 gets my vote for the simple fact that it goes back to all 3 in it's own brilliant way. ESPECIALLY with what they did with Shadow Moses towads the end
I love all of them, but Snake Eater has a special place in my heart. Trust me, ive played through them all like 10 or 15 times each, so i know how they all play. I think that in terms of story, Sons of liberty was the best, but in terms of gameplay and variety and the most fun ive had, ill go with Snake eater. The bosses in that game were just epic all around, especially "The End" which i played a million times. Loved sneaking up on him and punching him in the face =)
