I have been in RPG mode since last month or so. I have finished crimson gem saga, lunar: silver star, and tales of eternia for the psp. I started Valkyrie profile but did not like it much and did not finish it even though I heard a lot of good about it. I did not try Disgaea at all and also heard good about that game. I just want to take a poll and see what the general opinion is about these games. If you do have a recommendation of a rpg game for PSP that is similar to these type of rpg's then let us know. I am trying to compare rpg's that are similar in kind, and not trying to bring in FF: Crisis Core or Monster hunter freedom type of game discussion in here.

Out of the 3 I listed, I think Lunar had the best storyline and cinematics(i am aware it was released earlier in other consoles previously). crimson gem saga had the best action sequences and boss battles but weak ending. Tales of eternia has the most content and micro management, but the story is pretty weak with not a lot of reference to the main bad guy throughtout the game. My vote overall in terms of enjoyment would probably go to Lunar: silver star.

I left out Crisis Core and Monster hunter, because most people will vote for those 2 games, and it does not really allow the other games that i mentioned a chance to shine. Crisis core and monster hunter is more of a new generation RPG, where as those I listed in the poll are old school RPG game play. There is still lot of gamers who prefer the old school rpg style or enjoy it but those games are over shadowed by behemoths like crisis core and monster hunter series.

P3P is not ouit in N. america? or is it.. I am sure Y's series would be a good one to list as well, but they are still not out in n. ameria, and I want to leave out the japanese only rpg's because some of us have not tried it or understand japanese.

Crisis core all the way. I'm not sure why you exclude it from the list. My favourite game on the PSP to date.

From those choices: Lunar.

I'm not a Disgaia fan, but there are a lot who are. It's a love or hate game though.

From the list, Tales of Eternia.

But I personally enjoy FF Tactics, Jeanne D'Arc, and Valkyria Chronicles 2 a little more.

There are a few games that I need to add to the choices, but due to limitations to the poll I did not add. Take a pick from these if any of them is your favorite as well:

Brave story: new traveler,

popolocrois,

Riviera: The Promised Land

Star ocean: second evolution,

final fantasy anniversary edition,

jeanne d'arc,

legend of heroes series.

final fantasy: war of the lions

astonishia story

Glad to see Tales of Eternia wasn'tforgottenas that is my favorite RPG I've played I like the story to it and I'm not a big RPG fan either but it's a great game it's kind of strange how the game wasn't released in the US on PSP but still made it's release here in Europe.

I haven't played anything on the poll. My favorite is Star Ocean: First Departure. Loved that game.

Which reminds me that I need to start the second one.

Tales of Eternia is the best RPG for the PSP, and I hope nobody votes for Crimson Gem Saga.

Lunar is a great game. I've been playing the series for a while though so I'm kind of partial.

i hope they release lunar eternal blue star for the psp. they need to remake eternal blue just like they did with silver star. i was skeptical about this game at first due to the shear amount of npc's talking nonsense, but once i got past that, it had a good story with lots of twists and surprises that made me stick to it till the end.

Fro the list, Tales of Eternia but my personal favorite PSP JRPGs are mostly Japanese exclusive.

Brandish, Ys VII and Sora no Kiseki: Legend of Heroes VI.

I've actually only played two of them, being Disgaea and Valkyrie Porfile. Out of the two I suppose I have to tip my hat towards Disgaea, though I've only just started playing it too day I have been nothing but hooked. I'm sure I'll be playing this one for awhile. Valkyrie Profile wasn't a bad game though, it was good while it lasted but I don't see my ever going back to play it. That said I have to make a nod at Jeanne D' Arc. One of the first RPG's I got for the PSP and still is one of my favorites. Great game and if on the list I would have picked that instead.

Disgaea. I also enjoyed Jeanne d'Arc and FFT: WotL which are both SRPGS.

Even though I don't have those games I still plan on getting them, so I kinda reccomned them. Disgaea is a great series, I'm nearly finished the first one and if you like Post-Game things this game is perfect. And if your psp is connected to PSN you could always buy some PSX games on there.

I'm hoping XSeed can bring some of those over here. They're pretty good with localizing niche games.

It's quite good. Plays the same as the original, but has some changes to the formula if you will. They definitely made it more "anime" though, so I don't know how I feel about that.

lunar is definitely the best rpg on the psp, hands down. It has a great story, characters, a timeless traditional rpg gameplay,...and beauiful hand-drawn graphics that puts classic rpgs like chrono trigger and final fantasys to shame.

What... No one voted for "Crimson Gem"???

I kid, I kid.

"Lunar" is the tops, but I also like the re-issue of "Final Fantasy". Feh to "Ccore". Over-rated. Ya done good leavin' it OFF.

I think the best choices would have been:

Lunar: Silver Star Harmony

Disgaea: Afternoon of darkness

Tales of Eternia

FF: War of the lions

Jeanne D'Arc.

Since polls are only allowed to have 5 options, these 5 choices would have been good choices for this niche of rpg games.

Again those games I left out are specifically left out because they do not belong in a certain type of RPG that I was trying to target. I would say these selected above would be top 5 (or great choices) for old school rpg's to recommend to any one who are looking for that certain kind of rpg that these rpg's have in common with each other.

p.s. FF: VII as well would fit in this category perfectly, but I am sure everyone knows that already and that game does not need to be pushed further.
