Vizio tvs are low end, they can not compare with a Sharp set.BroweChisox
Meaning that sharp would look better even if its smaller?
Am trying to get full hd 1080p, i thought the vizio would be good for the price.
Any better recomendations?
Great set, great price, check it.ChickenAndStars
Would a store sell it, i beleve my comp has spyware,
i dont want to risk anything, but wouldnt the vizio be good?
Not a lot, but on bigger sets, it is apparentcan you see much difference between 1080i & 1080p??

That is a terrible tv with no redeeming qualities. Why would you lie to the OP?

It wasn't a lie, and that TV is a GREAT pricePlease recommend, am for the vizio so maybe somethings better buy
i dont know much. Under 2000. Thanks for the help.
I sell tvs so I can tell you that the 42 inch sharp is going to look better for three reasons. Contrast ratio is much higher on the Sharp 6000to1 as opposed to 1600to1. Your going to get a more detailed look with the sharp when it comes to real dark and real bright areas in the picture.
No. 2 the response time on the sharp is faster 6ms compared to 8ms
No. 3 its a Sharp what is a Vizio:?
Last note its a hard decision to make when you've got one 5 inches bigger and 1080p at a lower price:P

Uh, Sharp markets Dynamic contrast on their sets, as does Samsung (sony refuses to put a number on their BRAVIA sets, but the XBR2 was close to 7000:1 dynamic.) Vizio markets standard contrast.
There also are no industry standards for measuring response time or contrast ratio. So that 6ms response time could be just as fast as the Vizio, or the 8ms on the Vizio could be closer to 12ms or 20ms if measured using Sharp's methods.
The Vizio is a fine set. With all of the problems today, I bought a TV recently that saved me a couple bucks. A Westinghouse TX-42F430S. 42", 1080p, 4 HDMI, and cost me about 1300 on sale (down from 15). Budget LCD's are coming up in a huge way. The only gripe I have is that it only has 5000:1 contrast (dynamic), but other than that its fantastic. If you want a bigger screen, and not break your bank, get the Vizio. I brought my Elite 360 into Best Buy and compared my Westinghouse to a 4665F, D82U, and HL167. It looked as good as all of them, like I said, the blacks aren't as deep as the others, but by no means are they grey (in fact, the blacks on the Sammy and Sharp were crushed so bad that I could not see 1 side of my black Lingenfelter corvette in Forza 2.) And oddly enough, there was still judder, and motion blur, on the supposedly 120 hz Sharp.
Go Figure.

I looks like you have experinece, would the vizio be good?
am confused now, i dont know which to get!EL_MEXICAN
Sam's got that model wrong. The Sharp is a LC-42D62U. That's the model number that was absolutely PLAGUED with banding problems. They showed up as dark bands either horizontal or vertical in all movement. Ew. Go with the Vizio.

Yes, I've seen that set a few times and almost purchased it once. It is more than good enough for anything you will be doing with it. Besides, right around the corner LED backlit TV's will be out, as will 120hz sets, make due with something cheaper for now, and then when the time comes you can upgrade.

Yes, actually my Westinghouse is stunning. Despite what some people on this forum may tell you, Westinghouse put some thought into the TX series of Televisions. Their monitors are "ok" quality, but mine has the QAM and NTSC tuners in it and looks to be the start of something good for the company. I'd been following them since around April when people first started to buzz about how good they looked.
Quick specs:
5000:1 contrast (dynamic)
4 HDMI
2 Component
8 ms response time
All of that good stuff, the 4 HDMI is what sold me, as well as the PQ).
The best part? I saved over $1500 (I'd previously owned a disastrously cloudy XBR2) and can now put together a sound system or buy a PS3, whichever suits me.
Head to the link in my sig for some pictures of what it looks like.

again, thanks guys!
You'd probably end up paying around 1700 with tax. Another 150 for delivery (the 47" is a BEAST in the box, without it...not much bigger than the 42 ironically and the 42 took the entire length of my car.)
About 2k for the entire package including 4 year PSP warranty.

Cool and thanks, am off to work.
can you see much difference between 1080i & 1080p??
hrt_rulz01
Just have to ask, where did 1080i come from? LCDs are either 720p or 1080p, the only 1080i tvs are CRT ones.
To explain the difference.
1080p is 1920*1080 and go be as high as 60fps. The P is for progressive, so it drawings the entire 1920*1080 at once, 60 full times a second.
Now for1080i, interelaced, which is limited to 30fps. Imagine the screen can't draw all 1920*1080 lines in one pass, the tv can't finish before the begining starts to fade. So instead, it has to split the frame and draw it two separate times, odd lines, then even lines right after. Thus at any given moment it draws 1920*540, then to trick the eye it draws twice as fast to make you think you are seeing a full frame when it's really 60 half frames per second. So 1080i holds exactly the same detail as 1080p at 30fps, it's just drawn twice as fast at 60fps to make you think you are see 30 full frames per second.
Now, the only tv that runs in an interlaced mode are CRT tvs, you know, old tube tvs or old bulky rear projections. Then most cheap 1080i tvs don't even show full detail.
To address again, there are no 1080i LCDs, they all support it, but that's different than displaying it. There are no other tvs other than CRT that display 1080i, if it's not CRT, then it's progressive, which will mean if you give it 1080i it will have to convert it to the tv's native resolution, which would be 720p, 768p, or 1080p. And while a 1080p LCD has the resolution to show 1080i, the tv doesn't usually have the proper inverse tecline to put back togethor the split frames to look exactly like 1080p at 30fps.

You're right there is no industry standard in measuring contrast ratio or response time, but the difference in your assessment and mines is that I have experience with these products I sell tvs and see firsthand that the higher the contrast ratio the better picture you get. There's no arguing that Samsung make the best lcds and plasmas around when it comes to picture, and it just so happens they also reveal the highest contrast ratio on any lcd regardless of size. The only spec that Samsungs differ in most televisions is when it comes to contrast ratio, while all other specs are about the same so to there is no other explaination for this other than the contrast stat especially when those tvs also offer the same resolution.
1) Both of those sets are pretty junky. All of the current gen Sharps have been plagued by reliability and banding problems and Vizio, though everyone touts it as a "great value" on the internet, is an unproven off-brand.
2) Why would you buy a TV from Sam's? Go someplace where someone will actually benefit from your money and they care enough to negotiate on pricing.
3) For the money you're looking to spend, you could buy a name brand, 1080p set. Check out the Toshiba 42HL167 or the Samsung LNT4061F.
EDIT:
"Samsung make the best lcds and plasmas around when it comes to picture"
You obviously have never seen a Pioneer PROFHD1 or a NuVision LCD. And the guy above you is right: those numbers are arbitary.
