They are both actually really fun though I did enjoy GTA4 more. I can't really tell you why, I kinda just did.

Saints Row 2 has more to do, more freedom, and practically endless replay value (For me atleast). I think of it as the San Andreas of this gen so far. While GTA4 is the more polished game with better graphics and story, it depends what you want from a sandbox game.

I own both games on PS3. GTA4 has a harder learning curve. But can be fun. SR2. Is pretty easy right off the bat. And has features GTA should have had. Like choosing clothing colors, car designing fatures, and a lot of cosmetics like that(putting clothes on in GTA is annoying). I personally found SR2to be a blast from beginning to end. GTA4 is a pain at the beginning. Until you have a lot of cash(buying weapons from contact or taking cabs is a must later on). Then the game becomes a lot more fun. But your talking about 10-15 hours into the game. And the missions become repetitive.

I love answering this question. Let me go category by category to point out my opinion on these two games. I have both games, beaten both, and found out many Easter eggs in the games. Story and plot: GTA 4 has a way better story as a man named Niko Bellic coming straight off the boat from the Balkans without a visa. I can't really explain it, but this game has a touch of magic when it comes to story. As for plot, Grand Theft Auto IV is original once again because I've never seen a mafia movie with two cousins as the protagonists. I love how every boss or friend Niko works for has a different style of character. This makes the missions seem more rewarding to me. Saints Row 2 is a little sketchy with the story because the protagonist doesn't even have a name! The plot is superb like GTA due to the great organization of the missions (like getting a neighborhood and a sack of money after every completion). This one was for me to choose, but I think Grand Theft Auto IV is better than Saints Row 2. Graphics: In general, Saints Row 2 is a sandbox game with "cartoony" graphics. The realism in GTA is way more complex and better executed than in SR2. You can debate this one, but in my opinion Grand Theft Auto has a better skybox and really kicks *** when it comes to weather. So therefore, GTA 4 is more for me in this case. Multiplayer: Saints Row 2 is waaaay more basic and easier to get with your friends. Getting to level 10 in GTA takes forever. I'm a bit p*ssed off at SR2 for not having trophies but I don't really care when I think about it. Gameplay: OK this one is hard to come to a conclusion in, so I won't do it. Saints Row 2 is really weird when it comes to physics but it kills in minigames, and other cool stuff. Grand Theft Auto is more fun if you like exploring and surviving stuff as if it's in real life. Ugh, it's hard to describe gameplay, and I'm to lazy to finish this, so I'll wrap this up: -Saints Row 2 is more fun than Grand Theft Auto if you like messing around and killing noobs. I recommend RENTING this game. -Grand Theft Auto 4 is more fun than SR2 if you don't plan on using cheats and go for every achievement. I recommend BUYING this game.
