I finally saved enough money to buy a PS3, an extra controller, and a few games. I was wondering if there was any difference between the 60 GB one and the 80 GB one? And if so what are they?

Also would you guys recommend which games to buy? I like mostly shooters, sports, racing, action/advernture, and GOW type games. I absolutely hate RPGs.

Heh you should wait till october 12 before you make ur pruchase but I woudl recommend the 60gig and for you to wait for dual shock 3 before you get a new controller. For games get motorstorm, warhawk, heavenly sword, and other great games to cme out. Like ut3, haze, uncharted, and ratchet and clank. It also sucks you hate rpg becuase oblivion is the one of the best if not the first greatest rpg so far for this gen.

Also the difference is that the 60gig has a 97 percent chance of backwards compatability while the 80gig has a 54 percent chance.

I would wait for the 40 gig. I'm not sure when it comes out but it will be before the holiday season and it will only be $400. Warhawk and Resistance are my favorite shooters. I think Motorstorm is quite limited. Dirt is great.

The big difference between the 2 machines (besides the hd) is that the 60GB one has PS2 hardware in it for backwards compatibility. If you want to play PS2 games, that's the one to get. If you don't care about old games then get the 80GB.

Hmm I still do play a lot of my ps2 games. So I might end up getting the 60 GB. Why did Sony make the 80GB less compatabile with ps2 games?

I just got my ps3, and I would haveto say, unless youre getting some deal for an 80gb ps3, go with the 60gb. Motor storm is a VERY fun game to me, but not worth the $100+ on its own, so I got the 80gb bundle with a free lair game, because after seeing the controls video on youtube AFTER the update, it got me really excited about this game.

If you care about being able to play ps2 games and you dont plan on using your ps2 to play them(I dont -- still got a working ps2), then 60 gb would probably be your choice for sure. If you dont mind dishing out an extra 100 for motorstorm, or can get a good deal on that bundle, then go with the 80gb. the 20gb wont make much of a differnence, since u can replace the hard drive, and get a bigger one for cheap, so I wouldnt even takeHD sizeinto consideration.

But just to be safe, you might as well wait 12 days, to see if they WILL release a 40gb ps3, if you would prefer a stripped down version cheaper version,to be able to get more games, etc. I wanted the 60 or 80gb version with all the fixin's either way, so im very happy with my purchase, even if they DO release a cheaper 40gig version.

As for games I would say as soon as you get your ps3, go online with it, get the updates, then try some of the demos. They have them categorized into sports, racing, action, puzzle, fps, etc. Most of the notable ones not available as demos have already been mentioned (Ieheavenly sword, warhawk, etc).

To me, getting the 60gig seems perfect. Backwards compatibility, and thats still plenty of HD space. I haven't used my PS3 for music or anything like that, don't really need to since my PC, 360, Wii and PS3 are all hooked up to the same HDTV. So I don't need to put music or vidoes on it when i have my PC right there. So much space for demos and downloadable games and such. Of course i play Blueray movies or any DVDs I have on it.

It really all comes down to what you want to put on it. If you want to store a bunch of music, and vids 60gig is still a lot space, but if your not going to be playing any PS or PS2 games on it, than get the 80gig to hold more music and stuff.
