Burnout Paradise / Motorstorm Apocalypse / Dirt 3

I'm fond of both bikes and cars. Also, I want a game that gives me the best general view of the car racing genre.
thanks.

I think the better way to phrase the question is:

What is the game that could act as the best determining factor of whether I like the racing genre or not?

That's why I wanted to know which game could encompass most aspects for the genre. For example, I got FIFA 12 because I thought it'd be the best determining factor. Given that I'm not a fan of most of the sports exhibited in those sim games, I thought soccer would be the best medium to help me decide whether I like the genre because it encompasses aspects from american football, basketball, and hockey.

Now I'm trying to do the same thing with car racing.

I suggest Motorstorm Pacific Rift. It's better than Apocalypse. The graphics are stunning also.

Don't know what to tell you. All I play is Gran Turismo 5 and IMO it's dumb to get any other racing game over it.

You should give Midnight Club LA a try if you haven't already. Great game imo. Or GT5 if you like race sims. But out of those 3 I'd get Dirt 3.

Motorstorm are good games, although for a good view of car racing genre GT5 has that locked down tight. It has NASCAR, Rally, Touring and is the jack of all trades for racing, sure Dirt 3 is better at rally and all but GT5 does a good job at including them all.

Just to answer your question, I would recommend GT5 as that is about the only racing sim I like. I have no idea where to point you for bikes though...

I like GT5, it's a great game but Burnout Paradise is a lot of fun. GT5 is better but Burnout is loads more fun. Sorry if that doesn't make sense.

It sounds like you should go for Burnout Paradise. Riding bikesin that gameis more fun than in Motorstorm. I'm not sure why people recommend GT5 to you since that is a simulator and not really what you seem to be going for looking at your listedalternatives. I never liked Burnout enough to get it though. For arcaderacing i run NFS Hot Pursuit, Motorstorm 2 and 3.

Burnout Paradise is a lot of fun if you play online, and so is Midnight Club LA. I didn't like Dirt 3 it was really empty (except if you love Gymkhana), buy Dirt 2 instead (or maybe Grid but it doesn't have trophies).

Ummm what kind of racing game do you want? Sim genre or Arcade?

If you feel up to the task you can try tackling GT5, but if you are really new to Sims you'll probably not like it.
If you feel up to the Arcade I would go Motorstorm Apocalypse
If you feel up to the Mario Kart go get Modnation Racers.

Burnout Paradise and Motorstorm Apocolypse are arcade racers and are fun but not very realistic.

I haven't played Dirt 3 but I've played Dirt 1 and it was a rally sim which was good but I'm not a great fan of off-road racers.

GT5 is the best sim racer on the PS3, but if you are new to the racing genre then I doubt that you would find it fun, especially when tire wear starts becoming an issue.

You could also try Shift 2 which is a good mix between arcade and sim...

...but if it has to have bikes then I'd probably go for Burnout.

All I play is racing games so here goes:

If you like Mario Kart, check out Blur. It's a solid racer with power-ups and great graphics.

GT5 is fantastic with over 1000 cars and tons of racers online, but the simulation aspect might get boring if you're not an avid gear head.

Shift 1 & 2 are more technical racers, more focus on the dynamics of racing.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is 100% fun, crazy and kinda hectic at the same time.

Dirt 3 is a very realistic off-road racer with cars, buggys and trucks... but I enjoyed Dirt 2 more with a better soundtrack and more stadium races.

Driver San Francisco is a racer / mission / stunt game with tons of activities and stunt challenges.

BUT as for motorcycles.... not alot available. Honestly I would play GTA IV and race the motorcycles online. There are several to choose from and most tracks are within the city, with the exception of a couple wide-open highway races.

Edit: I should add that I haven't played Midnight Club PS3, Burnout Paradise or Motorstorm. I did play Midnight Club on the PSP and liked the handling of the Motorcycles to an extent, high speed through traffic is kind of difficult.

Burnout Paradise, Midnight Club LA, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, and Gran Turismo 5 are the best ones out there imo. I haven't played the Dirt series, but if you like rallying, its a fun game. If you're looking for something to "test the waters," and haven't played any racing games before, MCLA and GT5 might be a bit difficult, but are good games nonetheless. Burnout Paradise and NFHP are a bit easier, appeal to a larger audience, so I'd go with one of those. You can't go wrong with Burnout Paradise though. There's enough content to last you a long time in that game, and it's extremely fun to play both online and offline.

thanks. I heard that burnout paradise was not really that much of a racing game though? I'm kind of looking for a game that's between sim and those nonrealistic arcade racing games.

I'm actually thinking about getting gran turismo 5. Reason being that since it really is a pure racing game, and things like burnout paradise with all those crashes would probably deter me from whether or not I actually like car racing, not just blowing things up and totaling cars.

Only thing is, do i need to know a lot about cars to be able to perform decently in gt5? Or can anyone just pick it up and learn.

thanks.

To an extent that's true. It's more of a driving game that involves doing big stunts, major crashes, as well as racing, rather than a pure racing game. Still, it's very fun. If that's not what you're looking for, then I would recommend looking at NFSHP and MCLA.

Excellent choice, my man. GT5 is an pick up and play game. At the same time, gameplay wise it has the deepest gameplay of any racer ever, and I don't think you'll find even the Forza fanboys to debate that. You don't have to be a car nut, but the game will make you more knowlegeable of cars, and don't be suprised if you become a better driver in real life also (a couple of Gran Turismo players actually became professional race car drivers). The game even teaches you how to drift. It's graphically the best looking game on the PS3, it's the best selling exclusive (Even over Uncharted 1 and 2), it's got 16 car online races, NASCAR, Formula 1, GT Super Cars, Rally, Kart, etc. You can even trade cars from people online. Cockpit view is also extra awesome. Now for the down side: make sure you have space on your HDD because the installion plus the Spec 2.0 update is going to eat 10 gigs of your space.

Usually I get bored with racing games, but Burnout Paradise never seems to fail. The online play is still going strong and alot of variety in there.

I highly recommend it, but it isn't for everyone...If you get GT5 and you are new to that strong of a sim genre I highly suggest also getting involved in gtplanet.
People there are great and will help you tune any car for any racing setup (Wheel, HKS, DS3)

I wouldn't call it a pick up and play game...unless you immerse yourself as the driver. When you drive 65 think of actually being on the highway driving 65...Can you really take that 90 degree turn full throttle.

Tuning is major, but in order to be really good at the game you must learn the Driving line and learn to "feather" the throttle and brakes.
But there are always fun simple online rooms like Dirty Shuffle where the main objective is just crash the other driver out of your way with a randomly selected car :p

Looks like you got mixed opinions, but for future reference there is a recommendation sticky at the top of this board.
