You get what you pay for. You already have a pretty good grasp on the differences between the systems, so I don't know how much anyone else can help. I'd say go for the 60 gb, as it still seems to be the best option out there... Hardware backwards compatibility as opposed to the software in the 80 gb. The 40 gb doesnt have any BC at all.
I'd definitely go with the 60 gb, but if you'd rather save a few bucs then the 40 gb is still a fine choice.

Just as he says, the 60gb is the better one in my opinion. Right now, Sony has stopped producing 60gb because of their emotion chips (PS2 hardware backward compatibility) and the 60gbs are becoming rare and hard to find.
The European 60gb PS3 does not have hardware backwards compatibility. I was removed to cut costs, we didn't get the option of the 20g version either, it was 60g or nothing at launchYou get what you pay for. Totally forgot about that. Good catch.
I suggest the 60, few more options but the 50% HD increase is going to pay off in the end.teebeenz
Sorry I disagree, it depends on if you want to play PS2 games, then get the 60g. If you don't get a 40g and use the difference in price to upgrade the hard drive. You can get a 120g hard drive from PC world for £45, so you will be able to get a bigger one cheaper somewhere else
Can you write some extra titles for PS3. PS3 is in shops for about year and I didn't see great game. I believed on Ratchet & Clank but GameSpot gave only 7,5. Burnout must be cool CoD DMC4 Gran Turismo 5

I wouldn't buy a game just by reviews just like I wouldn't pass on a game because of reviews. As for getting the 60 or 40 gig PS3, the better choice would be the 60 (although the PAL systems never had the EE chip) it still supports a good percentage of PS2 games with software emulation.
You answered your own question.. you have PS2 games you'd play it on, plus you get an extra 20gig amd it has more USB ports.. i have the 60 gig and i think it's worth the extra money, exspecially if your going to take advantage of the backwards compatibility.
Yesterday I received the 60GB version which came with the Bravia HDtv. Happy, happy, joy, joy!
I prefer the 60GB, because it has all the bells and whistles. It's not the stripped down version.
The only benefit the 40GB version has, is the power-efficiency.
The truth is that many people especially people who want the PS3 for games don't use the SD cards slots, the 40 GB PS3 have 2 USB and if you want you can get an adapter with four more USB for 10 to 15 dolars. If you compare the 20 GB and the 40 you will notice that they are almost the same, the only difference is that the 20 GB System can play PS2 games but don't have Wi-Fi and the 40 one can't play PS2 games but have Wi-Fi.soulreaper-4
SD slots come in handy though. UT3 for example uses them to transfer maps and mutators....and well its just a good simple way to transfer pictures and videos to your PS3.
Card Readers + More USB's + 20GB Exra + Backwards Compatibility if you ever wanna play a PS2 game = better option.
Are you kucking fidding me?:P
60 gig! If you can find it. I'm sure someone above me has already stated why.
If you don't have any PS2 games like me, then a 40gb is perfect. I like the fact that the 40gb is more power efficient and it is alot quieter. And it doesn't get as warm as my 60 gb did.
Read all the topic u morons and then post, the 60GB has stopped to be produced, and the starter pack too.
The only edition of PS3 is the 40GB one, and if u are lucky like i am , besides the 40GB model u get 2 or 3 games free, depends on where u buy it.
For 20GB...hmm, yes, every space matters for a PS3 HDD, but it's lazy that SONY has stopped producing that, damn, when i see DMC 4 needs 4GB of space....argggg.
I don't know why Sony took this.......step :(.
They should put on some PS3's backward and a BIG HDD, for a price(high), but who wants some high end, he pays the price.
And the other should be a BIG HDD edition and no BC(for a lower price), the thing is that people go for the HDD, they want more space.
Who the heck plays PS2 games atm?, if u have a PS3, well.... some do, some are not.
Ratchet and Clank is a superb game. Don't listen to gamespot's lousy review - everyone else gave it at least a 9.0 check out ign.com they gave it 9.4 and they are a trustworthy source. Other great PS3 games: Resistance, MotorStorm, Uncharted, CoD4, Unreal Tournament 3, The Orange Box, Heavenly Sword, Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Haze, Little Big Planet, Gran Turismo 5, Tekken 6, Socom, and the list goes on and on.Rafinator
I appreciate your hopefulness, but these titles have yet to be released. Let's try not to lump them in the "great PS3 games" category. Oh, and Heavenly Sword should be left off for... other reasons.

Agreed, Heavenly Sword is a great game, short, but still a great game.
