Which PS3 should I buy

I am thinking of getting a PS3 I would like your advice on which one to get .... I do prefer the older fat ps3's unless someone can tell why I shouldn't get those models... Anyways I was thinking of getting a 60gb model that could play ps3's or a 40gb model ? Is there any differences I should know between the 40,60,and 80gb fat models?

Anything that belonged to someone else is going to be a gamble. Not to say a brand new PS3 will last longer than 2 years. But the odds of a new PS3 lasting longer than an abused one, is in the newer PS3's favor. BTW: blu-ray drive failers can be done yourself. Fixing one of those cost anywhere between 20 bucks to 80 bucks. 20 Buck if you just replace the laser, yourself. 40 bucks if you buy the rail that comes with the spidel motor, the laser, and the cork screw motor. And around 80 bucks for the complete blu-ray drive. HDD failers are simple to replace yourself, too.

Personally, I believe that if you wanna play PS2 games, buy a PS2. Component cable between the PS2 and PS3 are compatible with one another. Composite cable, too, but Composite cable suxs. PS2 is not compatible with HDMI, though.

As for the differences... you can google that up yourself. Just do a search for: Wiki PS3.

I like the older fat models. Get the first kind you can and you can always have an external on it. The thing is, it's just better. It's backwards compatible (which the newer models aren't). Plus, i haven't gotten the yellow light of death, which i have only heard of happening on the newer consoles.

Best reasons imo to get a slim are:

1. if you plan on using it as a blu ray player, and have a surround reciever capable of decoding the new HD audio codecs (DD True HD, DTS Master Audio). The slims bitstream the sound directly to the receiver, whereas the phats decode internally and send as PCM to reciever. Some say the sound quality is the same, but others say bitstreaming is better.

2. you can control your PS3 with your televisions remote (only if you have a Sony Bravia TV lol) if you are connected with an HDMI cable. This is Bravia sync.

Otherwise, the 2 systems are identical for the most part. I would suggest going with a bigger HDD, maybe 320gb or even 500gb if you plan on getting all those PS+ games, but you should be able to find those HDDs on the web starting around $50

in my opinion the main reason you should get a slim instead of the old fat ps3 is because sony doesn't make the fat ps3's anymore so all fat ps3's no matter where you buy them are used and buying a used console isn't a very smart thing to do (because used consoles don't last as long as new ones most of the time) so in my opinion you should buy a new ps3 slim
