Well I am debating on which size hard drive to get

I have an 120gb elite and I have about 80gbs left...but I intend to

download a LOT of music and connect to my PC

So can you ps3 owners help a newcomer out

Also could you please answer some questions

  1. With Linux the PS3 is literally turned into a PC
  2. Is the internet just as fluent as it would be on a macbook or PC
  3. Is Linux a good operating system
  4. How do you get Linux
  5. Does the PS3 come with an HDMI cable
  6. What is the absolute best use for a PS3 in your perspective
Any answers will be greatly appreciated and thank you for caring

1- No linux is hard to use, if you know something about linux or if you want to EXPERIMENT, then i say go for it, but it WILL NOT replace your desktop. 2- No the internet is kinda laggy. but it gets the job done 3-It is if you know how to use it 4- you can use google and search for yellow dog 5- no it doesnt' 6- Movies, music, Games If i was you i would get the 80 gb, The 40 gb uses an older chip and it uses more energy than the 80/120 Hope it helps

I'd get the 40gb and then upgrade it to 250gb. New hard drives are quite cheap.

I don't think the 40gb is available considering that Sony replaced it with the new 80gb. I would get the 160gb Uncharted bundle. Its got plenty of HDD, and it comes with "Uncharted" which is a great game.

Get the 40GB if it's "cheaper" of course, but the 80GB will get the job done also. Just recommend going out and picking up a HDD asap if you purchase a 40....shot even a 80 at that. Finished my 60GB w/ just 13 games; went out and bought a 500GB LOL! o sorry.....

First and foremost, the hard drive size doesn't really matter since you can easily upgrade it yourself to a larger size (i.e 250Gb 2.5" notebook HDD, but I don't know the max size or if there even is one). 1) Can't really answer that one since I'm not a fan of Linux as it is. 2) That really depends on your ISP and your set-up. Some are faster than others. 3) See answer #1. 4) Google is your friend. 5) Sadly, no. 6) Gaming / watching Blu-ray movies (via HDMI/Component video cable) are both excellent quality.

Thanks, sort of. But it sounds too risky, why everyone choose to do that if its so easy to harm the console?

@Shunjinko

There is no risk involved.  It is extremely easy.  In fact, I just finished replacing my 40GB with a $320 that I scored for $54.99using a copon I had for Newegg.  The system Utilities has a Backup utility that steps you through it.  I used n extra external drive I had lying around, and plugged it in (formattetd it to FAT32 first.  The PS3 Backup Utility stores everything on the external drive.  Unplug everything, take out the old one, plug in the new one, reboot, plug in the backup external drive again, do a system restore and you're back in business.  Seriously, the actrual HDD replacement took me three minutes.  Sony made it to be easy.  The side panel gives instructions on how to remove.  There is no risk of damaging anything.  The warranty is not voided.

Sony 40GB PS3 - $399

Larger HDD - $54.99

Total cost of upgraded system with 8x capacity - $453

Satisfaction of upgrading easily and cheaply - priceless
