Which should I get? (PS2 vs. 360)

Ok, lately I have been looking for a Next gen system. I don't know if I should get a 80g PS3 or a Xbox 360 Elite.

Which do you think? And please give details of why if you could.

I already have a PS2 with about 30 games which makes me kinda want the PS3 so I can play those games (I can play them right?) but I have heard a lot of good from 360 plus its a Microsoft product.

Also, do either of them cost money for online? Cause I wanna play online but not if I have to pay money.
