I'm not sure you really need one.  I got Ps3 in March.  I play almost 8 hrs everyday.  And I have never encountered any overheating or crashing.

Waste of money, and I heard that it could actually damage your system rather then helping it.

There really is no need for a cooling system on the console. What I found is stand the console on edge and allow as much space over the top as possible. This will allow much of the heat to naturally dissipate up and out of the console. The reason I did this is I found that most of the heat is generated around the disc drive anyway.

I'm not worried about overheating. I'm worried about wear and tear on the components from heat. I mean a very gradual degradation over a long period of time. I got the pelican cooler, because the less heat in my system at all times, the better. I know the PS3 is a reliable system that would probably last for years anyway, but I just don't feel like taking the chance.

Honestly PS3 is very durable and really does not need a cooling attachment.  Just don't put it in really confined areas where heat would build up, and it's fine.

Not getting one, doesn't seem necessary.  My PS3 is my coolest console as it is - my Wii is hotter to the touch, as is my slimline PS2.

Are these more prone to overheating than the PS2 was?  I bought my ps2 6 months after it came out, and usually used it in a confined space in the entertainment cabinet.  it still works to this day.  I'm a little more worried with my PS3 because of the price tag, so I keep it outside of the entertainment cabinet so it gets plenty of air.  Is it really a concern though?

I purchased the Pelican, never a big fan of their products but I must admit i'm impressed. It turns on and off by itself: via thermostat, and stays on for a short time after I turn off my ps3 to clear any residual heat. I never had any problems either with overheating but I was on my third ps2 for various reasons, the difference? I did'n't pay 600 bones for the ps2!

Is there a playstation cooling unit?  If not, then they must have built it not to need one.  Otherwise they would be selling their own version for $100 (just like they do with their HDMI cables)Â
