I am thats who. I mean why would Sony deliver an old and 'bricky" shape to the next gen PSP. Unlike most out there i realy like the PSP Go and i have one myself, and i cant imagine why would Sony stray from the PSP Go path. I mean it's really compact and it's hardware can play all the PSPS 3000 games(exapt for the UMD ones ofcourse). My anger has diminished since i saw the firt news of the Next Gec PSP, but i still dont understang why not go for a MUCH MORE PORTABLE version of the Go. Is anyone with me?

Anyhow this new mini Tablet size shape of the PSP 2will make my next few years PSP 2 free(well untill they come up with PSP 2 Go). But i still cant figure out why Sony didn't go with PSP 2 Go?!

If you want something more like the Go, I'd suggest waiting until the PlayStation Phone comes out. I'm actually very happy Sony moved away from the Go. If the Go design would have been kept, there would be analog nubs instead of sticks. Not to mention there aren't nearly as many downloadable PSP games as there are UMD ones. And what about people with crappy Internet? They're left out of the picture with download only games. If that sort of thing is for you, then stick with the Go. But if Sony were to remove all physical media from all of the PSP models, they'd be leaving a lot of users in the dark and less people would buy it.

I see some people complain that it is not a slider style like the PSP GO, and that the system is too big. Well do you like what the system is capable of? If so then theres not much getting around these things. The system is a beast and if it was too small it wouldnt be comfortable with dual analog either. Besides I REALLY don't understand who puts their handheld system (especially a PSP, even the old one) in their pocket. If I EVER put it in a pocket it would be a cargo pocket and those could hold a NGP. Even as an owner of the DS, I never put it in my pocket, I mean hell I have a wallet, keys, and phone that are in my pocket, there is no room for a gameing device.

Same. If the system is $350 or less ($400 is pushing it for ME), has a lot of good games coming, and is durable/reliable then I will buy this thing SO fast. I did not own a PSP, I owned a DS. I am very excited for the 3DS, but son of a gun this thing has me REALLY excited. I can't wait to see what games are coming to it. It better not be a bunch of remakes.

Indeed! Kinda strange that its not Naughty Dog making it :(. Whatever, I guess I would rather have ND focusing on the PS3 anyway, and I hear the Syphon Filter games are great (people making Uncharted on NGP).

PS - IDK if this would work well at all, but I was thinking about using the back touch screen to control your view in an FPS games (like the DS's bottom screen). It might not be comfortable depending on how far you have to move your hand, but if it isn't too far and such, I think it could be a great way to move your view in an FPS. The DS makes you have a stick in your hand and you cramp it up as it is floating while the other hand grabs the system. Just an idea I had :P.

I would like it to be a bit smaller, but it's important to have physical media work on it as well, and unless they can make the games really small like the DS(If they are PS3 quality that might not work) Then it would need to be big.

But honestly, I would not mind sacrifising a bit of graphics to make it more portable. It is supposed to be a portable device after all, so that should be the first priority.

True i haven't yet watched or read anything on the new PSP but the hardware comparison will/would make ALL the UMDs run on the PSP Go so why not port them to a downloadable format. Im still in lack of PSP Go new Kingdom Hearts and Landstalker, and such.

i mean who would want to hold a PSP Go(Hardware){of courese with PSP 2 Hardawear}in their hands that can play 'ALL' PSP 1/2games???

If you are talking about PSP 3000/ vs the Go then NO i do not like what SONY has done to the Go. As it is compatible at running ALLLLLLLLLL UMD games. .... YET THEY DO NOT!(i mean no download versions).

and i am missing most of my favorite titles. But anyway ... Do you think that a 'flip' versrion could be made of the PSP 2. I think so. And why have they not done it is a mistery to me?!?

@OP: At first I thought the NGP was fugly.. but after a while it was meh.. It looks so uninspired and bland. But I really didn't mind afterwards anymore.

I don't think it will be pocket friendly not only because it's bigger but because of how the micro sticks juts out from the system. This might cause "accidents" and damage the nubs by getting stuck somewhere. I am sure it can be resolved via accessories such as a case or some "strap" but it's not as convenient as sliding down a Go form factor and covering all the buttons and nub

I would have really loved a Go form factor because it will be more "portable" IMO. But, IDK how they are going to incorporate the new GRAB FEATURE w/o disabling all the bottons of the NGP in a Go form factor.

I heard Sony also switched back to the Bar shape because it was overheating in the Go form factor.

At some point. I think this could be a dilemma that makes the 3DS a little more appealing to people who want a more "comfortable to bring with you/portable" system than having to have a "bag" with you or some huge pants just to carry the NPG but the NPG is a more powerful device.

It's as you can view that they are "different" much like the Wii and the PS3 (specially before the PS3 had the MOVE).

First they could download throught their computer(wich is MUCHfaster)on the Go and the 'copy it to the PSP Go. But THAT is true and i agree. BUT that is only appliable to SONY because ALL the UMD games can run on PSP Go. ... Why they havend 'dowloaded' all the UMDs is a question by itself.

I havent read or watched anything yet about the next PSP. But my first impression from the photo is. ANGER. I mean WTH! why would they make another "brick" clone of the PSP 3000 when they had a perfect PSP in the PSP Go. I dont want to carry a tablet sized device in my pocket just to play games on the go, thats why i got the PSP Go for. And i was very exited with the "leeked" photos of the suposed 'flip up' PSP 2(even with its horid looks). But now i am very disapointed. Why would Sony even make a PSP Go if they weren't headed in that direction with their next PSP.

Anyhow, sorry for the ramble, and im of to watch and read the 'technical' stuff just for the info. But again, i am very disapointed at Sony and i am NOT buying the next PSP until they come out with a 'portable' one (AKA PSP 2 Go).

Oh, I think I now see.

If it were to be a Go form factor: the BACK PANEL would not be the same size as the MAIN SCREEN w/c could probably take some time getting used to (you'd have a harder time gripping the system as well). Also, the Go form factor wouldn't allow a direct "parallel - where you point is where it lands" relationship between the MAIN SCREEN and BACKPAD.

It might be a "Kid Icarus" problem (DS main screen isn't the same size as resistive screen). You have to recheck and recalibrate every now and then by looking at the lower screen to make it feel "right" when aiming.

Maybe this makes the BAR FORM FACTOR more sense than the Go..

I also would like it to be smaller. To me the existing PSP is already too big for a handheld. However I can understand Sony wishing to distance itself from even the design of the PSPGo. Sorry, but that system flopped big time.

I doubt these will hold as much as a blu-ray. Maybe 4-8GB at launch. But it should be adequate enough for a handheld.

the psp go is cute and all but i didnt like how they screen is smaller then the original psp, plus is so light i felt like i would break it whenever i played it. While the Psp2/NGP is rather bulky atm, its still pretty stylist and i dont really see how they could have gotten it smaller without taking features out of it. And with tablet and such being the craze rite now, being a little big isnt that bad for a portable device anymore.

Pretty much. Who knows, they could compress games like how ISO to CSO are and still have a decent load time since the system is likely to have at least 512mb RAM and a new architecture.

The analog "nub" on the PSP slides around. Whereas the "sticks" on the NGP/PSP2 actually tilt, more like those on a dualshock.

Yeah they could have made it look a bit more elegant and less clunky. But one thing I was worried about was where they were going to put the analog sticks, and the pictures of the 'psp2' that were made up showed them close to the bottom of the device with a slidey screen, firstly that would have pushed your hands downwards when using the device, making all its weight high up, not very balanced. So yeah I'm happy they went back to their roots to give us a more comfortable experience, who cares what it looks like!

Not many people like the PSP Go design, in fact I hate it because of the bad controller buttons, the NGP is a little big, but it's really amazing and I can overlook its size. It kinda looks like a sega game gear LOL

So i just watched half of the 1/27 sony reviel and i am speechless. First of all why would they have ANYTHING in common with Google(Android)[which is the evil of the webs]. and second of all why is it on the new PSP?

I never had a PlayStation system in my life, exapt the PSP Go, but what im hearing from the Sony demonstration is just too much. I mean i jsut wanted a better garaphic PSP Go and they went into A WHOLE L O T MORE! Anyhow. Im speechless and confused withtheSony annoucement and like before ill stick to Microsoft for my console needs and the ALL MIGHTY VALVE for the PC. Unless i see a PSP 2 Go.

Anyhow, its late here and i just watched half of the Sony conference and i wanted to steam some.... Good luck with your Sony overlords i better stick to M$ and the allmighty vALVE.

Thank You.

So i have whatched the whole PSP 2 press conferenceon my PSP Go ironicly and it just reminded me of one thing. SONY IS CRAZY!. And im staying with 360 for my console and vALVE for my PC needs... (BTW get Dead Space.. its a GREAT game). I just cant see myself with this 'technology' at my hands, but if iever want to go for thisPSP NGP itwill have tocome to a 'Go" format with a 200$ price value, and theni will be the first one to buy it.

In conclusion I HAVE NEVER bought a Playstation in my life.... and im begining to be ashamed of my Go venture....(although its very useful) but it seems like the PC market has a hold on me, and until Steam(vALVE) releases a cloud based 'tablet' or we get a PSP 2 Go im off handhelds.

So i my final conclusion.... PSP 'new' is just too BIG and too 'new'.

I loved the old design, I still love the new one. Sure, it might need more care for the screen, but if you keep it in a case and take good care of the system, it should last just fine. The design looks great, so I guess it's between beauty or functionality. I'd still take beauty.

It's mostly the dazzling screen. But it's only a little bigger than the original PSP.

Even though Im glad they went for PSP 3000 design factor, I just hope somehow how they can make it smaller like PSP 3000 which was perfect given that it said the final design could get some improvements. Right now ppl are saying its slightly bigger than PSP 3000 due the bigger screen.

They likely needed room to fit the new electronics, and a battery big enough to power them for the claimed 4-5 hours.

They probably could have made it narrower (though thicker) with a sliding design. But again, I think they're trying to distance themselves from the PSPGo.

And IMO, the grab function (for little deviants) won't be possible w/o closing the Go form factor and hiding all the other buttons. And nother problem on a Go form factor, The back pad and 5 inch OLED won't be the 1:1 size since you won't be able to hold the system w/o unwanted inputs from the back pad.. unless they really redesign the go form factor xD Not only that it might be significantly thicker to house and hide the Micro Analog Sticks. IMO a clam would work well but they'd want to distance themselves from nintendo.

But i still cant figure out why Sony didn't go with PSP 2 Go?!

juzek
because sadly the "brick" is about the best shape for any portable hand held anything. Can you nae one electronic that isn't "brick" shape

I also would like it to be smaller. To me the existing PSP is already too big for a handheld. However I can understand Sony wishing to distance itself from even the design of the PSPGo. Sorry, but that system flopped big time. [QUOTE="lazyathew"]

I would like it to be a bit smaller, but it's important to have physical media work on it as well, and unless they can make the games really small like the DS(If they are PS3 quality that might not work) Then it would need to be big.

ThePlothole

Ahem...

I doubt these will hold as much as a blu-ray. Maybe 4-8GB at launch. But it should be adequate enough for a handheld.

Im so happy there doing this the UMD's were so big lol

A couple of days ago i got 2 messages in my inbox from gamestop about not beeing "Forum" enuf.

one is... Reason for moderation: Topics outside of the board description

Which i dont thing my Topic was "outiside of the board description" as it was in the PSP forum ... and an

Reason for moderation: Intending solely to annoy and/or offend other users

Now that i read my answers i see and appologize to all the future 3DS owners as i wouild LOVE to have one myself. And maybe some Microsoft and vALVE 'comments' that i regret.

Anywho i apolagise if i hurt the Nintendo croud, as i love Nintendo and very much appricieate all their working ... FOR TRUE.

Well i just wanted to get that out of the way and according to IGN.com the new PSP NGP is.. B I G G E R(which is unbelivable).. then the OLD PSP.

Anyhow thanks for your answers and sory if i """attacked""" anyone.

And you wonder why you get moderated. Anyways, I don't report people for stuff like this (I find people are too sensitive these days), but comments like this will definitely get on peoples nerves, especially since this is the PSP board. If you have nothing good to say, don't say anything, so the saying goes.

And FYI, the PSP2 is far from a crud. I wholehearthedly welcome the 5 inch screen. Seriously, people's obsession to fit everything in their pocket is ridiculous.

Yes i know the saing. But Sony is JUST making money on the new "unofficial" PSP 2. and i am just PISSED at what they are doing. I mean They could wait another six months and they could have a smaller sized PSP 2 yet they want to sell out and come out now. All my 'beef' is that i know that Sony will come out with an PSP 2 Go in a matter of months yet they bring us this big Tablet CRAP ... NOW!................... come on Sony wait a half a year and maybe a year and then gives us the REAL PORTABLE FOR THE N E X T PSP.

Please dont give out to Sony on their "new" psp, they have to learn. Eather give us the ULTAMITE HARDWAREand postpone the release, or wait a while. I mean ppl have been waitin for YEARS now for the next PSP and You give them their $500 dollar Tabletreplacemant CRAP....... C O M E O N!.

ANYONE WITH ME. I MEAN COME ON!!!!
