PS3's sony controllers they look and feel great, but after a month or 2. It has problems. Like doesnt function properly (white and silver ones).

Then the plastic on r3 button gets ripped. If you use r3 as a run button it gets screwed after a while. If you use r2 alot it gets so soft. The controls are specially important in sports games. It really effects. Im not even playin alot but saw all these problems. They need to make it better. May be they dont want too, they want us to buy and pay controllers every 3 months..thats not good.

It isn't very ergonomic. My fingers have no place to curl on the back like they do on other system's controllers. But I haven't had any trouble with the quality.

Same here, it's really just a problem with CoD because you have to press it fast, most other games it's really not necessary to do so in such a fast, controller busting manner.

I love my Dualshock controller but I do not like my sixaxis controller because everytime I move the joystick, it squeaks loudly.

I don't really like them. I also don't like Sony' arrogant "If it ain't broke" mentality, since the Dual Shock 2 was not the perfect controller and the Dual Shock 3 makes some things worse. The triggers are atrocious. I guess some of it might be personal preference, but I cannot see how anyone could prefer the mushy, improperly curved triggers to the 360 pad (or hell, even the Dreamcast). Games that downplay them are fine, but when you need the triggers in a racing game, it becomes amazingly obvious how horrible they are. The sticks shouldn't be convex. The sticks should be tighter - they were on the Dual Shock 2, I don't know what went wrong. Part of it seems to be the implementation of the R3/L3 buttons, since I can yank the sticks up far more than I should be able to and I'm sure that contributes to the looseness. The prongs or handles are too small. They end about halfway down my palms and along with the triggers contribute to the controller's ergonomic nightmare. The build quality is questionable. I've only had my PS3 for seven, maybe eight months and my X button already sticks and squeaks. My right trigger also squeaks. The rumble motors are exceptionally loud and provide remarkably weak feedback - don't know if the design is different, but the 360's rumble is a lot stronger and the only noise it makes is the sound of the controller housing shaking like mad, not the motors themselves. I've got very little against the PS3 itself, but the controller is garbage.

I have had my PS3 since June of 08 and have yet to experience one issue. Maybe you just got unlucky and your controller is a defect or maybe I'm just lucky and my controller is awesome. Who knows:P

I think the PS controllers are terrible, but not because of button placement or layout. They are just too damn small for my hands. I'm not even that big of a guy and they make my hands ache after an hour or so. If I was a child or a small person they would be fine, but for your average adult male gamer they are way, way too small to be comfortable. If only I could use the 360 controller with a PS3, I'd probably never stop playing Metal Gear.

If it were easy to pull off such a mod I would happily open up my Dual Shock 3 and cram the innards into a gutted 360 controller shell.

I totally agree with the part about the mushy shoulder buttons. L2 and R2 are too inconsistent to really be relied on for anything important. If Sony made them more like what they were on the PS2 controller they would be much better.

Me too. I think some one needs to make several all-encompassing game controllers (one like the 360, one like the PS3, etc.) that will work with any system so gamers can choose which one they prefer to play on.

I have 2 Sixaxis controllers and don't have any problems with them. They work as they should,

Personally, I've always had a strong preference towards the Sony controllers. They feel very comfortable in my hands, which are very small, and I've always liked the button scheme and the feel of the joysticks. Other controllers I've used or tried in the past have always given me problems. Most controllers are murder to small hands, they feel very large and clunky, and often the shape itself is uncomfortable. N64, Gamecube, both XBoxes, the Dreamcast...I can honestly say I've never liked those controllers. They don't look or feel good to me :?

I'm on my 5 controller right now. I've broken 2 of them having it be my fault, but one of the the L2 button grew really soft after playing GTA4 a lot and the button would stay pressed down no matter what. The other one fell from a couch cushion and landed on a carpet floor and the R1 and R2 popped out. I put the buttons back in but they still like to fall out. Their just not very durable. The ps2 controllers I own have been used since I bought my ps2 and i I never had problems with them.

Sony needs to make the controllers tougher though. I don't see why they would though since they have made $200 off me just from controllers.

I had a white one i had to return it because it was pressing 2 buttons by itself. Then i bought a silver 2 months ago. After a month it was pressing right button and x button by itself once in a while tho. But it really effects when you play sports games like soccer. So i had to use my other controller for it. the black ones are ok but they get old pre fast. L3 button plus the plastic gets ripped. But it is not defected like white and silver one. Probably i got unlucky for those ones. But I will try to use wired ps2 controllers and see how they work on ps3.

If you take care of your controller and don't play like an animal it should hold up fine.

The only issue I had with my (white) DS3 is that after a couple of months, the spring that holds up the L2 button snapped making it loose. I ended up taking apart my DS3 and replacing the spring with one from my Sixaxis since I don't use it anymore. Other than that i haven't had any issues. IMO the controller is great. I have pretty big hands (can palm a basketball pretty easily) and I think it's size is perfect, not to big not to small.

The two things I would change is the analog sticks. I like how the 063 xobX analog sticks are contoured, which helps prevent your thumbs from slipping. And i keep the L/R2 buttons the same size, but also make them contoured for the same reasons as the analog sticks.

The only problem I've ever had was with non-Sony controllers back in the day of the PS1. After a few that broke or were generally rubbish I just bought a second official one and that lasted for the lifespan of my machine. My PS2 came with two controllers which both still work fine. My original PS3 controller and the DS one I bought are both fine.

I like the design, find them comfortable and responsive. Never had any issues with any offical Sony controller.

Dualshock 3 feels so much more secure, buttons last longer and the analog "button" function works a lot better. And it vibrates. I play loads and my last one was wrecked... L1 had to be pressed really, really hard and X and O took quite a bit to get going as well. Analog sticks didn't stay in the original place and just got stuck on the edges meaning I always move right, no matter if I'm holding the controller or not. But I'm happy with Dualshock 3.

I love my DS3 controllers. Like the previous poster, the DS3 is a solid controller. If I were to be nitpicky then I'd have to say that the trigger buttons feel a bit strange compared to the DS2. It just takes a little getting use to.
