I can clearly remember after the launch of the PS3 on Ebay the bids on the PS3'S were sick, some went as high as $4000 or $5000 dollars. Did anyone pay that much for their PS3?

i paid $2600 for mine. and i dont regret it, cause i have two jobs and wanted it so bad. I even picked it up on the release day cause the guy who i bought it from lives 30 minutes away. Molotovrock
Wow, man. Actually, that's pretty great, you've got balls man. :P
850 cdn (with shipping)for me haha
Worth every penny to have it early. Everyone was so amazed that I had one.
I just laugh at the people that complain that 400 or 500 is too much for a console.
I thought I heard teh highest it went was 1500? I just read this one forum post about how they sold a $12,100 custom ps3 on ebay.

yeah there were some insane high prices, i think there were several in the tens of thousands.. I have no idea why..
I camped out in front of a best buy to get one on launch day, with the intention of selling it on ebay for $3000+.
I was just 2 spots away from getting one too.
i paid about 1000 and i regret itstopitnow14
$1000?
Couldn't have just waited? I'm assuming of course you couldn't wait for more stock, as you didn't pre-order?
You realize those prices dropped off literally 12 hours after the thing was released right? Considering the next day, I was able to find this system sitting on the shelf?
I feel bad for those who did, real bad. Same for the people who bought a 360 for like 1500 dollars and a Wii for 500.

No. The ps3 was never sold out. Stores continued to get stock in almost weekly

hmmm... well, i remember hearing that sony dropped the ball by not keeping up with the demand meaning that they were either in really short supply or were sold out in certain areas. where i live, i did not see a ps3 at ANY store for MONTHS.

Maybe, but literally 1 day after the PS3 was released, in the northeast of the US, I could find a PS3 anywhere I wanted whenever I wanted.
Maybe in your specific area, they might have been sold out, but until now with the price drop and Christmas and good games finally coming out, the PS3 was never sold out. Any "Shortage" was on Sony's part.
