Hi all! I love adventure games , don't like games for their graphics or gameplay.. but for the plot and single player and character develpment . I liked games like heavy rain, journey , dreamfall / the longest journey,  indigo prophecy, uncharted 1 ,2 , legend of zelda a link to the past , eternal darkness sanitys requiem and I loved the walking dead arcade game *thank you all for recommending that *

I do not care about multiplayer, its supposed to snow tomorrow so I probaly wont need to go into work so Id like to mess around with something. Cheers all.

Well, since you like the Uncharted games, you'll probably like this new Tomb Raider, since that's what everyone keeps comparing it to.

Sounds like it would be a good fit for you.

I played it for a few hours last night and I have one word: amazing.

After putting a few hours into it.

-The single player is really fun, but each open area is actually quite small.

-Other than farming XP I've found no reason to hunt, which is a let down as they kinda made a big deal out of the ability to hunt.

-it's not really like Uncharted, sure it borrows some ideas, but overall feels like a different game. Uncharted is still a lot better in my opinion.

-So far, puzzles are non existent. The few puzzles in Uncharted games blow these out of the water, from what I've seen so far they're not even puzzles, there's really nothing difficult to figure out, more of a do this action to get that to open.

-The story, ehhh so far it's really nothing special, as well as the character development. But it's not bad either.

-The multiplayer, is just a disaster, balance issues, horrible melee combat, guns sound like someones shooting bb's at a tin can, worst spawn system I've ever experienced, spawn camping like you wouldn't believe. Huge slap in the face from Eidos to Crystal Dynamics who developed a huge turd in comparison to the SP.

I know it sounds like I'm kinda bashing it, but really it's a very fun SP experience and I'd def recommend it to anyone who likes adventure games. I just want you to know some cons, just in case you have certain expectations.

I'm too lazy to write another impression, so this is a repost from another thread:

I played about two or so hours of Tomb Raider, and I must say that my apprehensions regarding the reboot are now invalid.

It still feels like a TR game despite the modernization of the core aspects - platforming, exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat. The combat, specifically, is fantastic and had me engaged for once; previous tomb raider games were known for clunky, mundane combat which drew me out of the experience, so I'm glad that free-aim is now prevalent. One of my fears was that TR would be overly linear, but that wasn't the case. While TR isn't exactly open-world, the areas are still very large, which I'm loving. Most of all, I'm really enjoying getting to know this Lara, a girl who is insecure and still learning about the world around her as opposed to the robotic badass that she once. And did I mention the music? Epic. Enough said.

Only question I do have about this game: Does it still feature such a nice amount of In Game Bonus Content like Extra Weapons, New Costumes for Lara and Unlockables and Hidden Secrets and Relics to Hunt like Legend did?

Also, I agree with the person who said that Tomb Raider doesn't feel like Uncharted. I've played Uncharted 1 & 2, and while they are great games, they are very cinematic, restricting any kind of freedom we have in regards to the platforming, exploration, and even puzzles.

Tomb Raider doesn't hold the players hand as much, which is refreshing. The platforming, puzzles, and combat have much more depth than Uncharted. Exploration is where Tomb Raider excels, and like some reviewers have stated: it's the quiter moments that really shine, particulary finding and completing optional tombs. It's moments like that where Tomb Raider is especially compelling. The only aspect that Uncharted really has over Tomb Raider is the writing, which is significantly better.

Both are great games that offer different experiences.

Relics - yes, couple per map/area

Collectible's - yes, several per map/area, there are books, gps radios, relics, and each area also has some other objectives, like burn 5 of these flags etc.

Hidden tombs - yes, one per map/area I think.

Weapons - they come as you advance, but you find and collect certain upgrades for them, this might come as the story progresses or at random, I'm not sure but I've found a part to the bow from an enemy I killed, few other parts I found as the story progressed.

Costumes - Only through DLC/pre-order

Can you point out exactly where you've come across a puzzle? lol because I'm now at about 40% complete, I haven't come across one. Like I said, there are certain things you need to figure out to advance, but they're not in the form of puzzles. Unless you consider the part near the beginning when you have to blow something up in order to advance. But I wouldn't call that a puzzle though, just a set of actions to get something to work.

Are they in the tombs? because I've only completed one tomb, and again, it didn't really have a traditional puzzle. There's absolutely no challenge to knowing what to do in order to proceed, and other than the very beginning I haven't used the "instinct" feature.

I don't want to spoil anything, but I encountered a puzzle in a challenge tomb (the dlc one) and the platforming was a puzzle in and of itself. But it's nowhere near as challenging as the older games.

Aahh too bad about the costumes, was kinda the strongest and most fun point in the older TR's for me, but well, I guess that was to be expected and it still sounds awesome enough to get it so I'll think I know what to buy this week ^^

Thanks anyways for the info :)

Um the tomb puzzles can be hard. I was stuck on the second tomb in the Mountain village area for over 30 minutes because I couldn't time the wind, pulley and jump just right. Also the puzzle are not traditional. They alll involve the environmental factors like water/wind/fire for the most part.

The combat is this game kills Uncharted as well. The brutality is shocking in a good way. Also this is fairly long game. I almost 40 percent complete with about 8 hours in so far. Looks like 20 hours or more for people who like to collect everything.

I'm a few hours into it and I'm really digging it so far. And, for whatever this is worth, I'm never been a hue fan of Tomb Raider games. I've played a few here and there, but they never drew me in greatly (and I think 'Underworld' is the only one I ever bothered to finish). This new Lara is much better than the old one. More fragile, more human. I never felt emotionally connected to the old Laura Croft in anyway. Now, only a few hours in, I've been scared for and felt empathy for this Lara several times now. I also love the more gritty, brutal tone of this one as well. I love that the adventure shows on Lara physically, as opposed to the old games where she would come out of every event, no matter how rough, still perfectly unscathed with not a single hair out of place.

The gameplay - the movement, platforming and combat, are all satisfying and fluid in this one. Whereas in previous games the controls tended to fell a bit clunky. Probably my only complaint so far is that there are a few too many "press X to not die" sequences. I realize that quick-time events are part and parcel of this genre, but it feels a little excessive in T. So far it feels to me like this game has even moe QTE's than 'Uncharted'.

Is 'Tomb Raider' than 'Uncharted'? No, not in my view, but I'm a huge far in the 'Uncharted' franchise (who's writing and voice acting especially make it stand above most other games). But it is a solid, high caliber effort which is more than worthy of gracing the shelf of any fan of this genre of games.

*edit*: I should note that I have only played the single player campaign so far and have not tried the multiplayer at all.

I finally got time to play it last night and man, I was not dissapointed at all.  I enjoyed all the uncharted games and I think that tomb raider is different enough to stand on its own.  Go buy the game!

I pulled an all-nighter to play tomb raider last night, and I never do that with a game, so that's saying quite a lot. It's engaging, the pace is impeccable, and the game play itself is impressive.
