I just got a 1080p hdtv and at first I didn't even realize you had to change the settings on the ps3 to utilize it (yes I do have an hdmi cable). So for a few days I was playing at 480p. I played around with the settings on my ps3 and set it to recognize 1080p/ 720p/ and also 480p.

Now I'm playing elder scrolls oblivion (which is a 1080p game) and it's only playing at 720p??? What am I doing wrong???? Please help

dude, I have a 1080p TV also, all that means is that it'll underscale the 1080p so it'll play, you'll need a TV that has 1920x1000 TV to really play in 1080p...

for example my TV supports 1080p but is only a 720p tv...

Lol, what you just said is completely untrue.

First, 1080p is 1920x1080, second a 720p can not support 1080p, third its not underscaling anything (most games run 720p native)...
