the playstation has only been out for two years and we have yet to experience the full potential of it, and all the really good games are going to be coming pretty soon through out the 9 years it has left. so stop rushing it, and just take the ps3 for what it is, geez
uhm... mgs4 kinda was the potential ... and uhm.. kojima didnt get everything he wanted to do because of this .. :) but more games like mgs4 and ill be happy for another 10+ years XD

I don't believe Sony will wait 10 years until they release their next console, not with MS and Nintendo competing with them especially MS who might be planing to release their console 2010/2011.
I'll give the PS3 another 3 years until Sony reveals the next console.
I'm also sick of dumb idiots asking about the ps4 the way i see it it's only one next gen console out right now and it's the ps3 the xbox 360 is not a next gen console it couldn't even beat the ps2 which is more it's gen cause it came out before the other two consoles so there next console will just be getting next gen .the wii is in between next gen the wii mote is next gen but the hardware isn't.and since sony came out last it i s what really started the next gen and it's in that gen by itself until the next xbox and wii comes out.but i wouldn't expect to see a ps4 for another 5 to 6 years down the road.to or 3 years after the competition so they can start the next gen wit the best hardware.

When you said the Xbox's hardware is a little better than the ps2, do you mean the xbox 360? If so, then you are one of the most deluded fanboys I've ever seen. The 360's hardware is roughly equal to the PS3's. If you meant the original xbox, then I apologize.
360s don't fail twice a year. The RROD is basically fixed, but its perpetuated by other fanboys. I've had a 360 for 2 years, no RROD.

At the same time, the PS3 also functions as a Blu-ray player, DVD-upconverter, and a media center. Depending on the firmware they throw out to the PS3, it could be one of those machines that really does last for 10+ years (especially if the bandwidth cap comes to pass)
all i want is, the ps4 for talk to stop, becuae ive thrown down some money for the ps3 haha and its only been out for two years, as long as the ps4 comes out in 6-8 years, then ill fell ive gotten my moneys worth and move on

it's just fanboys for the other console wanting sony to be dumb and try and battle there system and rush out another system that will be faulty like the 360.
Seriously... people need to stop talking about the PS4 and be happy with the PS3. Many people (including me) already contributed alot of money into the PS3. Give the PS3 an extra 8 years and it will be the time to get a PS4.
some of you fine folks need to take a chill pill. people can happy and content with the ps3 yet like to talk about what the next big thing will bring. Its fun to BS about what the next round of consoles will bring. And any one who thinks it will be 10 years before we see the next wave of consoles including the ps4 is just kidding them selves. sony said thay plan on the ps3 haveing 10 years of life, NOT that it will be 10 years till we see the ps4. You can bet the farm that thay are already planing out the ps4 as we speak.We will be hearing things in about 2 to 3 years for sure IMHO. As for my self, yep im happy with the ps3 that i JUST bought so im in no big hurry but that does not mean its not fun to talk about. thats the nature of the beast when it comes to electronics. its a fast, forward moveing industry
It would be advisable to wait an extra half a generation past the 5 to 6 year mark. I mean there aren't as many games being put out this generation as last generation. Developers complain all the time about game costs. Since we have stores for DLC, we really don't need a brand new console every 5 years. What are they really going to do. A lot of the software out there still doesn't really use the power of the PS3 or 360. I couldn't care less if they don't come out with a new system until 2015. What we have right now is good enough. We just needs developers to use it better. I know there will be new sets before then, but we really don't need it. Graphics don't need to be better. We don't need a new storage device now that we have a 50 GB disc. The only thing left to make is virtual reality, where you actually become the character. They are still too many games that aren't so good across all the platforms out now. It would be in everyone's interest to wait longer this time around. The big 3 should ask 3rd parties whether or not they are ready to move on to help strengthen support and not have so much garbage at the beginning of a life cycle.

But by that time, PC graphics will have already advanced far beyond it. PCs will always be stronger.
And I can put together a 600 dollar pc, possibly less, with way more power than a PS3.
Have fun with that. Good luck finding something like a Cell processor and a blu-ray drive + all the extras and vid cards for the PS3's cost. This machine is insanely powerful - which is why people have coupled them together to make their own superclusters (it's actually affectionately referred to as the cheapest way to make a supercomputing cluster in many circles). There's some intense power in these machines - the devs just have to further optimize and learn how to better utilize it, as well as optimizing the Open GL ES (which *is* happening, although I don't know if they'd ever patch the PS3 like that)
