i've been wondering this since the ps2 days. why is it that the controllers are often more expensive than even the games themselfs? they don't even come with the cords, u gotta buy those seperate, ps2 was guilty of over charging on controllers too back in the day... seriously why do they cost so much??? anyone else irritated by this?

Because they know third party controllers suck a certain part of the genitalia.

Yeah, they're expensive - but they're generally worth it.

Amazon has them from 30-36 new. I know at the store they are kinda really high at like 55 though. Still with Sony you know you are getting an HQ controller and it has blu tooth and rechargeable batteries which in the long run will probably save money.

the quality difference is HUGE between 1st and 3rd party controls. i don't think that it's worth 55 plus tax

but you do get a quality product. thankfully all my friends have a ps3 and bring their own controls when needed.

I only have 2 controllers (the one that came with it and got another when I got my ps3) because of the price. I was going to pick up 2 more for LBP and COD, but now I just ask people to bring their controllers over. Sure, the quality is definitely there, but I feel like they should make ones without bluetooth if you are just buying the controller as an extra for when you have people over. Though, I'm sure you can get some good coupons for them if you get them at stores other than game stores.

I must say they are better quality than ps2 controllers. Somehow only 2 or 3 or my 5 or 6 have survived, and I wasn't rough with them (so naturally I shall be going out and getting a few more, hopefully cheap now).

They are expensive, and im surprised they never did a price drop. I guess its because people will still pay for them at that price.. and who wouldn't, they are so much better than third party controllers.

I have four controllers. 3 of them were acquired via "falling off a back of a truck" from my cousin, at least that is what he told me. I gave him $20 for each. They were brand new too.

It's definitely not quality, because the thumbsticks on my launch PS3's sixaxis both stick in different directions, and I've had to open my launch 360's controller several times to unstick the X button. I have a Dual Shock 3 now and it's starting to show the same defect as the Sixaxis. They're expensive because of the brand name. It's like back in the day you could buy a $30 Sony memory card or a $10 third party one. None of my third party cards have failed, even the ones from the PS1 days.

each time im abou to do that i remember how much the dam thing cost so i cool down instantly.

also, holding a ps3 dualshock3 feels like holding a "next gen" controller, cables and batterys are from the past, a 360 controller feels like holding a dinosaur, also i bet that most people have spended enough on batterys to buy games or a console

as with everything else in the world, companys make money with the accessories. you have the system & you need the controller = you will pay whatever they tell you

Any gamer needs a controller to game so Sony can get away with charging anything. That being said, the quality of the controllers are unmatched, however much the price is.

the design its a different thing, if it isnt broken, why to fix it, the keyboard and the 360 are the same, what about the mouse huh?

i mean about the tech inside, bluetooth and rechargable battery

I agree with you, a ps3 controller is too expensive but i think it's worth it, because if you buy another brand of controller's i think that controller won't be as good or can be used as long as a ps3 official controller

They are over priced, if they were a little cheeper i would probably have them in every colour, but because of the price ill just stick to my two black controllers

I agree. I purchased a Logitec wireless controller for my PS2 that was of better quality than the Sony controller that came with the PS2. And, the price for the Logitec wireless controller was the slightly less than the price of a wired Sony controller.

It could be a bit cheaper but they are better than the 3rd party controllers.

They are overpriced because people are willing to pay that much. Like everyone else say 3rd party controllers blow. I waited to get another dualshock 3 and got the combo with Little Big Planet for $35.

It doesnt really bother me, but I have always been curious why its like that.Maybe cause the battery i built in, or because it has the siaxiss thing, I dunno.

Sixaxis + blue tooth + built in battery = price. At least that's what I'm assuming. I've always steered away from third party controllers, so I'm not sure if they have the same things for a lower price. But that's my theory as to why it's more expensive than say, a 360 controller with no blue tooth/battery/motion.
