whats the point in home?

sony are spending a lot of money making home and costing them even more to have servers running 24/7. why cant sony put the efforts into more important things?

if home wasnt being developed imagine how much better psn would be. sony would put half the efforts that are going into home to developing a version of in game xmb and the other half into making psn a solid working online service, with a great online store that has hd movies to download and maybe even that tv thing, great support for devs having trouble with their games and all other things to make the ps3s online service as good as the 360s. but no sony have top spend years making this pointless service that most people will use for about a week then go back to their games.

They are trying to mimic the success of Second Life. It's a nice idea, but I have doubt about its excution right now. If they succeed though, Sony would instantly have a pretty marketable item on their hand that won't necessarily be limited to just PS3.

I guess they might be aiming at making HOME the key for making their online server even better, I mean the more there are online in home the better.

Still I have no interest in it, if they can throw a lot of money on this project I guess it is worth it for them.

I agreed with you.

The most important thing sony can do to help online just now is focus on the features that helps with online gaming. I want to be able to do all these things and more when am in a game. Send messages, read messages, voice chat to people playing different games, invite friend from any game, have recently played list, add friends etc

After you get the above fixed then look at the team that deals with downloadable content and try and speed them up so if COD4 get a map pack then PS3 bring them out on the same date. Same goes with demo's and videos.

After they done that then they can mess about with it as much as they want.

I think the biggest point of Home is for Sony to have a smoke screen to hide behind. When people talk about the PS3 needing more features a lot of people say to just wait for Home.

that's why I have problem with people bickering about Home's delay. If sony truly want it to be big and more than just a gimmic for PS3, they'd need to throw a lot more into Home and at least get the base right. I don't see Home being sucessful when its scope is so limited right now, being just a generalized lobby; maybe they've got something more up their sleevs. maybe...

I agree, Home is such a waste of time and resources. Resources that could be utilized to provide a better service and more features that the PS3 is clearly lacking.

These features are going to be part of HOME (although it may not be in the program upon release but in time things like this will be added). The idea is to create a area where people can meet other gamers that have the same game taste to create even bigger groups of players that may have never gamed together with the current set-up. There could be some benifits to this like you can get an idea of each person before you get into a game with them. This could keep the rude people out of your game areas and possibly weed out the cheaters before getting into a game with them.
