I have played through most, if not all of the Metroidvania style games.

- symphony of the night - dawn of sorrow - portrait of ruin - order of ecclesia - harmony of dissonance

They are all fantastic, so I'm wondering why Konami are so stupid as to not release a new one like these. I have played through CV: LOS and it is poor in comparison. What reason does Konami have to not make a game like these with HD graphics for PS3?

Konami has been very quiet lately and theyve made some weird decisions, alot of people are wondering the same thing you are. I think if anything the next 2D castlevania game would show up on the 3DS but at this point we have no idea when. And with the success of Lords of shadow they are probably going to go in that direction with the console games for the next game as well.

I believe you're thinking Harmony of Despair. However, that isn't a real Castlevania game. (it sucks)

I would really like more 2D castlevania games. Konami should make another one.

Because lately Konami doesn't seem to like money. But honestly, I think the 2d castlevania games (if they start making more) will likely be 3ds/vita titles, and the Lords of Shadow follow up will be on the hd twins.

I'd definitely go for another Castlevania:SotN-type game on the PS3 before I go for another Castlevania:LoS-type game (It was a great game, but nowhere near the perfection of SotN). Well, at least those who haven't experienced SotN can download it for free when they buy LoS and I do believe it's on the PSN as well.

Yeah, the Metroidvania games are among my most favorite games of all time. SoTN is on PSN, are you talking about the PSN in your country or something?

I am so glad that there was a demo for CV: Harmony of Despair because after playing that I didn't even buy it when it went on sale for $6. Just some weird mish mash port type multiplayer boss rush mode type thing and not a real new 2D CV game.

And yeah, the next 2D Castlevania game, assuming there is one, I'm sure will be on 3DS. I guess that would be 1 reason for me to buy a 3DS. Might push me to buy one, I dunno.

They can pair them up with the sort of Resident Evil games we'll never see again.

And SotN is available on the US PSN. I bought it. Perhaps it's not available where you are?

:)

I'm totally with you. A 2D Castlevania game on a current gen console would look ridiculously GORGEOUS! I'm thinking the special effects of Symphony of the Night on steroids, wow!

But if they do release more 2D games, it would probably be on the 3DS or the Vita. I think they sort of came to the conclusion that 2D games would sell more on handheld systems and 3D games more on consoles. Releasing a 2D castlevania game on a console would only really entice purchases from hardcore fans, but considering the way of the industry, the developers try to tailor towards as much of the masses as possible. The casual gaming masses would look at a 2D game on a console and think "huh?" Most especially the demogrpahic of 12 year old boys who weren't even alive when Symphony of the Night came out. Developing a 2D game on a console and making it good would take A LOT of work and require a lot more money than developing a 2D game on a handheld... so it's understandable that they don't want to take the risk of a profit loss.

But we can still hope... I haven't given that up yet.

Sadly, the idea of a 2D Castlevania probably seems entirely too retro or "outdated" for the current or next gen systems, and Konami probably just can't imagine there's a large enough market for such a game to make it a worthwhile investment of time and resources. Which is a damn shame. Much as I want a new game, I'd be quite happy to see them do a graphically updated Symphony of the Night. Or, better still, a Castlevania Collection that includes graphically enhanced versions of the original Nintendo trilogy, Symphony of the Night, and the GBA titles (Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrow) all on a single Blu-Ray. There are very few games I purchase upon release, at full retail price, but I'd happily buy a collection like that for $60. Unfortunately, I think we're more likely to see an FPS "Castlevania of Duty" game before we see a classic side-scrolling action/RPG Castlevania on the current or future consoles.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL! You crack me up.

Too true, too true. New gamers are ruining video games and they make me sad they'd buy a Clone of Doofy game over a 2D Castlevania.

It's that developer mindframe that makes them think 2D games wont do good on HD consoles. It's why Castlenvania Lord of Shadow exists in the form of God of War.

because it is a weird game. it is not a real castlevania game. it is a mish mash port boss rush time trial multiplayer gimmick. I don't do multiplayer games and I don't really think it's too much to ask for a single player 2D Castlevania game.
