Im not really sure why some are, and some are not. Alot of the Exclusives are. I mean NBA, Uncharted, VT3 "Is VT3 a exclusives?" Either way Im sure will see more.
Really its a question for the developers. Like I said in a post once. Ask a certain developer why Uncharted can look so good, yet you guys cant do anything, whats the prob? No Skills I guess lol. Im sure the skills will get better over time thow.
It also comes down to the point of new, great, and technical stuff, is never easy. Im sure anyone can max out programming for the NES now also. But thats why its the NES and not some new pushing standards tech.
Upscaled =/= native. The resolution has almost nothing to do with disc space, it has to do with the video card/processor/RAM capabilities. Most games don't run well at 1080p on either console. If the developer can't make it run well, they knock the resolution down. Don't let the 360's upscaler fool you, they're actually generally running at 640p or 720p. PS3 doesn't have a hardware upscaler, your TV generally does it.
Video is another story, because it's not rendering on the fly, as everything is rendered already. It would take a rather massive resolution to cause a video to slowdown.
Anyone's free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Yeah, I don't get it either. Almost all of my PS3 games only go up to 720p. Out of the 6 games I have, only Ninja Gaiden goes up to 1080p. Not to sound like a fanboy, but all of my 20+ 360 games are either 1080i or 1080p. But to be honest, I can barely tell any graphical difference between the two systems anyway.
But I still do wonder why 720p seems to be the norm on PS3???

That makes sense to me. Even though you do seem unsure with your explanation. :P
and there on the same disk. I mean come on almost every X360 game has 1080p now and there on a standerd disk don't make no sense to me,jre11
You know what's weird? I've played COD4 on my ps3 and it was always displayed in 1080p.
Then last week it started playing in 720p, but I didn't make any different adjustments or anything else...
yep

This is correct. I'm sure that all the Ps3 exclusives are 720p native. But not one 360 is 1080p native, that's for sure. They are all upscaled, and what sucks is they advertise on the box that it's 720p or 1080p. This is why I hate when exclusive games go multiplat. It's always a downgrade.
I'd rather have 60 fps at 720p than 1080p at 30 fps. Maybe one day even 1080p at 60fps but that won't happen for a long time.jre11
Umm... Are you kidding? 2 launch games did. Ridge Racer 7 was a launch game and ran at 60fps in native 1080p. Same with NBA 07.
Bro all of the 360 games are upconverted, there not even true high def. The reason all ps3 games are not high def is cuz gaming companies are still learning the new technology. ps3 is the first console to have high def games.[QUOTE="jre11"]and there on the same disk. Very, very wrong. The 360 has SOME games that run in 640p, and they are usually running in that resolution to add different effects. The Playstation 3 version runs in the same resolution.

360 games are upscaled to 1080p and PS3 games are REAL 1080p. Blame the devs and not the PS3, Sony or the game.
Since nobody paid attention to what Melkari said I'll reiterate.
There are some 360 games that are 1080p natively, like Virtua Tennis 3, there are some other ones but I don't remember which ones, possibly The Darkness, but I think there was some controversy about that.
The "1080p" on the back of the 360 games denotes a supported resolution, not a native one. It's no use arguing over True HD or upscaled just yet as it has not really made a difference thus far. Uncharted is one of the better looking games on any system and it runs at 720p and that's fine by me.
In order to get a game running smoothly at 1080p certain things need to be reduced, like texture detail, or number of effects on screen, there is a balance that a developer needs to achieve and right now 720p seems to be that sweet spot. When developers start to better understand the PS3 and 360 then they can start to up the detail and the resolution.
This has nothing to do with Blu Ray vs DVD9, that is a storage medium, not a determining factor on what resolution a game can run at. That is based on the CPU and GPU and RAM. Take Gears of War on the PC, it shipped on a standard DVD9 and I can run that game at 1920x1200 with everything turned on and run it at a higher framerate than the 360 version.
I think alot of pepole don't realise how much work and money goes into making games these days. Gone are the days of the small backyard company producing lots of popular titles.
The funniest thing is, the people that most whinge about 'bad graphics' are those that don't even pay for the games.
It depends on what the game is encoded in. Any smart developer would do it in 720p, it's only the sell outs that do it in 1080p, cause whiny consumers HAVE to have the ABSOLUTE HIGHEST resolution possible, yet none of them realize that video games run better in 720p. It's easier on the console, and much easier on your television.
Jesus, there is hardly a noticable difference between 720 and 1080, so why the hell does it matter?
Not every 360 game is 1080p. Every 360 game can be upscaled to 1080p, but that is not the same as being rendered in 1080p. The 360 has a dedicated scaler, while the PS3 does not.
The thing with 1080p is that is a very high resolution. The same thing goes with gaming PCs. If you up the resolution, you have to decrease the frame rate and/or visual effects. If they want to run at 30 frames per second, some games have to be rendered in 720p.
I know everyone screams how powerful the PS3 is, but it isn't that powerful. This generation of games will be ruled by 720p. The next generation is probably when you'll start to see all or most games rendered in 1080p.
