I've noticed that whenevr my PSP connects to the internet while charging it stops charging, why is this, surely the already power hungry WLAN would benefit from being able to have an external source of power so why stop it? (I have a PSP fat though so it might have been changed on Slim ones?)

Because the guy at Sony who designed the power parts was a f** or either that or he fell asleep while designing it, well then he's still a f**.

Probably because it would cause too much strain on the battery. Having it charged up and charged down at the same time and at similar rates.. couldn't be good for battery life. But that's just a hypothesis, I'm not sure the exact reason. Though I do agree that it's quite annoying.

Judging by the way I have been playing, you cannot charge while youre using WLAN with the PSP, but it will never run out of battery, if yknow what im saying.

Yes, your psp only charges when offline. The designer cut this out to save time so that they could get the PSP on the market as soon as possible. With a PSP Slim, you can charge it while onlne.

IMO that is the best reason to upgrade to a slim then :?

It may not work online but if u take out the battery and plug in ur charger and then turn it on your psp will take the power directly out of the outlet allowing u to play a limitless amount of time online:)

The guys behind the PSP's firmware have stoped this function through firmware. There is no technical reason its not possible.

Same reason why you can not charge through the USB while not in USB mode its disabled through firmware by our friends at sony HQ

if u want to play for longer periods of time on the phat, there is a work around

go online, play the game. plug the ac adapter in. open the battery door and take out the battery while the charger is plugged in.

the psp will run without a battery, and will draw power directly from ac adapter.

when you're done playing, just put the battery back in and disconnect the charger.

yea, us slim users don't have this issue

i used a homebrew app called pspdisp. i go on a wireless network on it. it charges while on a wireless network. it cant be hardware. it is probably the firmware preventing it from charging.

i think this will solve that problem....the light will be orange while you are playing online, but not really sure if its charging... i just discovered this when i was messing up with the recovery mode on PSP, but first you must have a custom firmware that has a recovery mode....(how to go to recovery mode?? shut your PSP down by holding the power switch in about 5 second? and turn it back on while holding R button) then you will be in recovery mode...look for the Text CPU Speed, then click X on it and change Speed in XMB to 333 instead of default, same as the Speed in UMD/ISO, you also have to change it to 333..... and that's it your PSP will now charge (i Guess) while online...
