When I press the buttom to turn it off I get no response, Its not frozen since I can turn it off from the XMB menu, but why wont it turn off ? I can turn it on using the same buttom so I guess the buttom isn't broken.

you can't turni it off rom the reset button you either have to turn it off from the xmb or the switch at the back
keep your finger on the button for a few seconds, it will turn off.mfp16whoops i didnt know that :P
If any of that does not work then the sensor is broken or you are a alien from the future which sees fingers but does not have them
this is not true and NEVER turn off your ps3 using the back switch. You will F it up. Just leave your finger on the button for a few seconds. The only time you use the back switch is when it is in standby (turning it off from the xmb or front button).you can't turni it off rom the reset button you either have to turn it off from the xmb or the switch at the back

isn't that a "force shutdown "kinda thing ? isnt that gonna damage my ps3 in the long run ?[QUOTE="mfp16"]keep your finger on the button for a few seconds, it will turn off.Merc009
force shutdown is after like 10-15 seconds on holding your finger there. a normal shutdown you need to hold your finger there for about 4ish seconds. but yeah you got to hold your finger there.
isn't that a "force shutdown "kinda thing ? isnt that gonna damage my ps3 in the long run ? No it won't. You should always turn the PS3 off using the controller and pressing the PS button. If the PS3 is frozen, you just hold down the reset button for about 10 seconds and you will hear 2 beeps and it will turn off safely. As long as you don't use force shutdown for no reason because you're bored or something like that, it is unlikely that your PS3 will break.[QUOTE="mfp16"]keep your finger on the button for a few seconds, it will turn off.Merc009
Only do this as a last resort. Holding down the on/off button for 3 seconds is totally safe and fine.Turn off the main power switch on the back of the console.
