Or am I missing something? I find it annoying that if I want to gift my friend a game, I have to go to the store, buy a PSN card and then email him the serial code. Why not just do it at the online store?

It would be good, and maybe in the future would be something they implement. But as you say the only way so far is with a PSN card =\

It makes things much more complicated. Just be thankful you can give him a PSN card in the first place and just go with that. Let he/she choose what they want.

If there's an alternate option, get the disk version. Don't see the issue here...

Im not talking about disc based games here, Im talking about PSN games like BF43, or Pixeljunk Shooter which you cant gift physically. I dont see why this would be an issue, gifting is no problem through PC clients like Steam or D2D. You even get to send a cute personalized email/gift card.

It can be quite good for some things, especially if it's implemented like the steam system where you can get multiple copies of the game for and then gift the other copies to you friends so it's cheaper for all of you.

I'm not familiar with Steam so I wasn't really aware of that. But all in all, it's a hundred times easier to pull off on a PC (as just about everything else seems to be). But, I can see perhaps a PC-PSN integration for such a thing. Kind of "send game to another user's PSN account?" and they'll get a download notification when they log on to PSN or something...?

Thats actually pretty close. When looking at a game, you have an option like "Gift to a friend" right below the default add to cart/purchase button. Youd then get a prompt to select from your friends list or enter an email/ID. The next time the recipient logs on, they get a notification and can download the game inmediatly.

Like someone else said above me, some digital distribution clients take advantage of this and offer packs; bundles of games for you and 3 or 4 others. Take the Bordelands - 4 Pack for example.

I would also like to see this feature. It's pretty handy on the wii and gog (kinda like steam, but without the copy protection).

I'm assuming gifting isn't as big partially because Steam sells bundles of multiple copies of games, which are meant to be gifted.

They could probably incorporate this into PSN+, members get discounted packs or something. Or they could do what steam does and pass a "one-hour-free-play" to one person on your friends list when you purchase select games.

After using Steam, I think PSN is too disconected. In Steam you are well aware that there are thousands of users and you can track what theyre buying, what youre friends have been purchasing, what games they recommend, more elaborate profiles, etc. Sony should definately move to make PSN feel more like a community rather than merely a service.

create a psn account, buy the game from that account, then give the account details to your friend... :)
