i'm having problems with my download speed from PSN, it is incredibly
just to show you ... i downloaded 250 mb in 1 hour
(i am connected to  a wireless network with the ps3's wifi card, my strenght signal as an average of 75%  to 85%, i don't think it's a reason for the lag)

so, i searched of a few forums, i've found people with the same problem, and i did like they did, connect a wire for the internet in the ps3.
the download speed was about of 100mb in 5~6 min

so here's the problem now, i need that cable for my computer (that is near the ps3), i don't think it would be possible (or easy) for me to bring an other cable in the room

i have heard of some USB Wifi adapters that could work with the PS3
could somebody tell me more about this ?!
like what are the average price?
are any companie's adapter working fine with the PS3?
is it really gonna solve my problem?

and most of all, could sony ever fix that problem with an update or i'd really need a wifi adapter ?!

thx guys,
an other question i forgot earlier came back to my head ...

is the wifi slowdown problem is affecting the online gaming too?? (i still don't have any online games ... well i don't even have ps3 games for my ps3 yet)
... you guys both tell me that wifi is crap, thx for the info (well before my wii and ps3, only my father was using it in my house, it was basicly just to browse the internet)
but are there any "good" quality of wifi adapters or my best/only solution is the cable ???

No it isn't. 54 Mbps is just fine for downloading over cable or DSL. The issue is most likely signal strength or some other network configuration problem more than local network bandwidth. Normally download speeds over the average broadband connection don't even come close to 54 Mbps.

Well.. not to play devils advocate or anything, but that still doesnt dispute the point he was making... WiFi IS always slower than using wires.

I think your wifi is just extra slow lol, cuz I use my school's wifi and it's never been that slow. I'll admit it's prolly slower than wired, but it's never been so slow that I sat around forever wondering what the heck was taking so long

You need to learn how to forward ports on your router. If you're using a linksys router go here 192.168.1.1 However, I'm not sure what ports to forward or what the IP for your PS3 is, because I don't have a PS3 yet. It should say in your wireless settings. An easier way is to set up a DMZ server, which bypasses the firewall on your router (opens all ports) and set it to the IP of your PS3. You can get up to 54 mbps with wireless g (which is in a PS3). Your router is wireless G, right?

Please do your homework first. 300kbps is less than 54Mbps. The speed of 802.11g is faster than most people's wired connections.

It's a mixture of factors. There's always the issue of packet loss, but it's been stated that the WiFi antennae used in the PS3 is, well, cheap.

Ah sorry I expressed myself wrong I get 300 kb / sec in true speed the actual kbps is 2400. Doesn't change the fact that it is still way lower than 54mbps
