I'm always interested to see what factors pushed one to a particular console. These days exclusives are few and far between one anothe but maybe there was enough to persuade you. Were all of your friends getting one platform. That never bothered me. I bought a PS3 while all my friends were on 360 and I had plenty of fun.

I'm into trophies so I didn't want to lose my collection, the Xbox One Launch was terrible which turned me off it completely and I wanted to try playing with friends?

So, why did you buy a PS4? Are you happy you did or do you regret it?

@themanofpears:

For its exclusives and because I'm a bigger fan of Sony than Microsoft and Nintendo. Still don't regret it!

I actually came from PC gaming. My PC was old and I was fed up of the hassle of upgrading hardware and just missed the days of just buying a game and playing it. I went with the PS4 as my friends are on there. Plus, I had the Xbox 360, I didn't have a PS3 so I missed out on some exclusives such as TLOU and Uncharted.

Personally I love the PS4, it's probably the best console I've owned

@themanofpears:

Uncharted and Last of Us were always my faves along with God of War, Ratchet and Clank and the soon to be Final Fantasy VII Remake. And also, ps4 is the only console where I can get my Hyperdimension Neptunia on. The new one, Megadimension Neptunia VII is also on pc but my junk pc could never run it in a million years.

Pc gaming is the plan for when I have the money to invest in serious gear, but I hope I can keep up with consoles as well

@themanofpears: It has the exclusive games I wish to play. I did owned previous three systems in the family as well so little nostalgia might have helped when I picked up the PS4. You can kind of always expect that the PlayStation brand will bring newer franchises and diversity.

I also got a little tired of constant PC upgrades after many years and just wanted something I can relax with after 60 hours work week. Our household also always had a Nintendo system (handheld and console).

Because I really, really wanted certain games.

Same reason why I buy any gaming device.

I bought it at launch and to this day, love every bit of my PS4 and it's my main console the da house. I have lots of PSN friends and I do enjoy gaming with my friends on it. I also love collecting trophies so I can compete with my friends and I got it for the games I wanted to play on it. I never had a problem with my PS4 and don't see myself upgrading it and the only upgrade I done not too long ago is get a 2TB for it.

I went all digital this gen and these are the games I own on PS4:

  • Watch Dogs
  • Infamous: Second Son
  • Onechanbara Z2: Chaos
  • Senran Kagura: Estival Verses
  • Bloodborne
  • Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (also own it on PC)
  • God of War 3: Remastered
  • The Last of Us: Remastered
  • Transistor
  • Velocity
  • Resogun
  • Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor
  • Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
  • Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection
  • Street Fighter V (also own it on PC just for the mods)
  • Injustice: Gods among Us
  • Destiny/The Taken King
  • Knack
  • Killzone: Shadow Fall
  • Star Ocean 5
  • Dead Island Definitive Collection

Hi,

I am new here, I am French and I here to try to progress in English so sorry if I make fools. In my case, I bought PS4 for exclusives mainly and because I played playstation for years. I think that my only frustration is the last Tomb Raider which is out on Xbox and not on Ps4 because I had the habit to play with my father at this game when I was young.

My favorite games :

Batman Arkham Knight, Watch Dogs, Far Cry, The Wolf Among Us, The Walkind Dead & Uncharted

I've been a Sony fan since the original ps and haven't regretted that choice once. Best exclusives every gen and the biggest variety of games.

where i live, sony's console always comes out first, even if xbox one came out first, i'd wait for the ps4, since all of its reviews were better in terms of graphics, the os, etc... that being said i also purchased an xbox one when it was finally released, it is collecting dust however, the only games i play on it were forza games, and titanfall until it got old... :)

on another note, most of my friends are on psn, strike that make that all of them, although they are not that active, and i end up playing alone most of the time... :)

Mostly for the Uncharted Series and other new games made by Naughty Dog. Also I normally prefer the PS brand even when I had all consoles NGC XB and PS2, the PS2 library was always more than the two together.

multiple reasons for me. i was a 360 / pc gamer last gen (still am a pc gamer).

  1. microsoft's initial xbox one reveal- forced online connectivity, forced kinect usage that's always 'listening', blocking of used games so can't borrow games from friends, glorified multimedia hub etc. did not appeal.
  2. playstation 4 reveal was the opposite - a gaming machine, pure and simple. and a more powerful one. decent price point.
  3. disappointed with how microsoft's best exclusives had changed i.e. bungie no longer making halo, epic no longer making gears (both judgement and halo 4 were poor compared to their predecessors imo). had no faith that xbox one instalments would be better and wasn't interested in forza, titanfall or dead rising.
  4. i wanted to play tlou.
  5. and all the upcoming exclusives were more appealing

Pretty much my thoughts, as for the upcoming exclusives ---> meh, out of all the upcoming exclusives the only one I cared was UC4. Besides, by the time both systems launched Sony had games I wanted to play while Xbox didn´t, Xbox had games I wanted to play almost 2 years later, that´s when I got mine.

Got it because I knew it would get all the RPGs. FF15 looked really nice. I am happy with my decision.

I just set my PS4 up earlier today! =)

I was only a Nintendo gamer until I finished college, started working fulltime and could afford more than one console. I had to get a PS4 or Xbox One since the WiiU doesn't get a lot of third party support, and there were a lot of multiplat games I was interested in that I couldn't get (The Evil Within, Resident Evil 2 remake, the earlier Assassin's Creed titles, among others).

The PS4 was definitely the stronger choice between the two, all because of the exclusives (whether they be exclusive to the PS4 or just Playstation in general). Games like Until Dawn (my first PS4 game, which I'm playing through right now), The Last of Us, Persona 5, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Star Ocean (despite the reviews), Ni no Kuni II (please let them port the first Ni no Kuni to PS4 sometime), Valkyria Chronicles and No Man's Sky all convinced me to get the PS4 over the XBone.

The only Xbox One game that really interests me is Ori and the Blind Forest, and I can always get that on PC.

So yeah. The short answer is: the exclusives.

Hype and process of elimination. I dislike microsoft due to windows problems and xbox/xbox 360 reliability issues and I wanted a NEW console. Wii U was lame, xbox one was out, ps4 was my only choice. I preordered right after it was announced at e3.

I learned a valuable lesson though as I ended up barely playing the ps4 for more than a year. I played 3ds, ps3, and wii a ton and came to realize old games are not only much cheaper than new ones, they're often better than launch titles for a new system.

For the exclusives and since I always preferred Sony over Microsoft (and Nintendo for that matter). Sony delivers on those promises time and time again. Don't regret one bit. Even with the new announcement of the cheap Xbox One S I couldn't care less, it does sound tempting considering the price point but at the end of the day it has virtually no exclusives that interest me.

Never been disappointed in Sony's offering in the long run. They have quite the selection of JRPG, they always have a very wide catalog of first party for all taste which isn't the case of Microsoft and Nintendo.

So there you go.

My wife bought it for an early Birthday present for me right the February after launch otherwise I would have probably waited until there were more games, or until the price dropped. Still I don't regret getting it just like I don't regret getting either of the other two current gen consoles.

A lot of it was for the rpg games like Sword art online and Digimon story, but there where some other influences. I'm having a blast with the PS4, so no, I don't regret it.
