I know that Sony is coming out with the new $600 80GIG model, but are they going to discontinue the 60gig? that wouldn't make sense because the price drop for the 60gig is actually helping their overall sales. leaving a more expensive model as the only option now is a dumb move!

Just about everything Sony has done from the beginning has been retarded and if I didn't love my PS3, I'd sure hate Sony but as since I'm happy with the system and games, I guess we all just have to put it aside and say we all just got screwed...bottom line.

I am pretty sure the 80 gig model comes with a game and an extra controller to justify the 100$. If they sell it at the same price has the 60 gig then no one would buy the 60 gig one. So they are trying to get rid of the 60 gig models still in stores before they release the 80 gig for 500$ without the game and controller.

I think its simple logic they would be pretty stupid if they gave 60-80 gig models the same price right off the bat. Then they would have to give an extra pricecut to sell the remaining 60 gigs.

Nobody is getting screwed here. Sony didn't force you to buy a ps3. You have a system that works as advertised. So they decided to lower the price of the 60 gig ps3 as it gets phased out for a higher-end model. Big deal. Manufacturers of products do this all the time. This isn't any different from Toyota putting incentives on 07 models before the new 08 line rolls in.

yup...but us die-hard MGS fans are forced to put up with sony's stupidity. It's like how pc gamers are forced to get vista now.

It takes place when all the 60 gigs are sold out. My guess is that the supply will last 2 to 3 months.

No matter what sony is saying they are actually just consolidating their manufacturing process. It's cheaper that way for them.

sony is trying to liqauidate its 60GB model so they can drop the price of the 80GB model faster- the 80GB is cheaper to produce then the 60GB. SOny just wants to get rid of the 60GB so they can drop the price of the 80GB

if all goes according to plan i would not be suprised if we had a $399 PS3 by this time next yea- mabye lower actually
