Why do they completely ignore the story of the game, i mean resting on the hope that your gameplay speaks for itself only really aplies to sports/ arcadey game imo.

Like the Valkyria chronichles demo, that had no story at all, and i keep hearing about how good the story is, shouldn't they try to suck me in the story, give me charachter motivations instead of

"LOOK. ENEMY! KILL!", yes the gameplay is good i should pick up this game, but i don't have any time right now.

Another recent demo is the riddick demo, why is he randomly dropping into this place, why is there such terrible dialogue I DON'T GET IT.

Same with the killzone 2 demo, they could of thrown in a fmv of the story but they didn't.

Its not about marketing or sales, it justs bums me out when other people might be missing out on great games because they didn't have a good experience with the demo, i am trying to help my fellow gamer.

What do you guys/gals think?

You can easily read previews explaining the strengths or weakness of the game in regards to it's story. To make a truly informed opinion on the gameplay, though, requires more of a first-hand preview.

while im of the mindset that story takes place over gameplay. i simply cannot deny the fact that without decent gameplay, not matter how good the story.. it simply wont be enough to make me play the rest of the way. so they give you the gameplay parts of the demo's instead of the story because in recent years it has been possible to look up the story of the game online and read the first few paragraphs and then you could decide if you liked where it seems the story will be going, and im sure many people will agree with my mindset (story is over gameplay BUT not by much) this of course may not apply to hardcore online only people but meh. with the new riddick game, its more of a you have to play the first game to understand anyway, so no matter of story would help you out (from what i have heard anyway)

But I like that, for example we know almost nothing about FFXIII story and I really like it because I want to experience it myself, for example we knew about RE5 almost everything including final boss and it's not cool

i made the mistake of looking too much into a game way back for mgs2, i never got that virgin experience from that game, something i have learnt from.

thats also why i don't like looking at reviews and previews, thats why some people prefer a number score on metacritic to tell them if a game is good or not, they do not want spoilers, something many game sites have forgotten

*cough*ign*cough*

For me i am a story driven gamer, i mean games like fallout and oblivion are ROLE PLAY games, meaning you are experiencing the story of you as someone different in acompletely different world, the actual gameplay isn't very 'fun'.

the best thing that for me is to watch a trailer, and trailers are great, i suppose combining trailers with demos is ideal for me to see if a game is worthy of my money or not.
