In different times of days, we hear loud or soft things. This is called noise pollution. If you hear loud things all day, at night you might want to crank up the volume on the televison, where-as when you hear soft things all day, its vice-versa. So I guess maybe thats why, or the original volume on there music/converted videos is small, but I do think the UMD volume could be better on the PSP speakers. :)

The earphones arent very loud in high noise situations (being in a car, bus etc), which is annoying. Also, in many cases you can end up with music of varying volume, which means that some songs arent particularly loud at highest volume at any time. Id like maybe a 10% increase, then it would be fine.

I agree, the psp's volume is fine. Both the speakers and the headphones work fine for me, but it also depends where you play as well because if your in a noisy environment then you'll have to turn up the volume more. As far as the psp speakers go, look at their size! The psp is a small device and you can only fit speakers that are so big and they will have technological limitations because of their sound. In this respect, I think people expect too much. The volume through the earphones could be a little better but since I'm at home I never go past 75%. I think people these days listen to their music just way too loud and over time end up damaging their hearing and as a result they have to crank the music louder and do more damage.

Ur right, it lacks sound volume. But consider this: Compare it with an Ipod, sure, it sounds louder. But, PSP has better sound quality, very well equalized sound, not all treble like the Ipod or many other handhelds. Cuz that`s what Sony is about, quality not quantity (hahaha, oh man I should work as a spokesperson for Sony, hahahaha)

But seriously dude, what would you prefer: more volume and no sound quality or, a midium volume and gr8 sound quality?

I`ld sure as hell pick both, if I could, but in this case you just have to settle with one. U decide.

Peace.

Why is the sound volume connected to sound quality? I don't think the two are related but im not sure.

Of course they`re related, if the the sound has too much treble (like the comparison I just made) it puts out kinda like a hissing sound, does`nt it? Try it out on a stereo or something (max the treble), and you`ll see what I`m talking about. Therefore, that hissing sound is`nt sound quality. :D
