I could be wrong but it may have something to due with moniters having a 16:10 aspect ratio instead of 16:9. I think that's what it was.phoenix009
does this affect a lot? ...csuae if it does....then im not buying a monitor lol
'cause monitors are for poor people
don't get me wrong, i'm using a dvi monitor too
but seriously, monitors have the problem of not able to do 1-to-1 pixel mapping, the image is not as good as hdtv
meaning monitors have to stretch the imageno matter what, unless your monitor is 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080, but i've never seen such monitor

you don't get it... monitors that have resolution exceeding 720 or 1080 will result in image stretching thus losing quality
so exact resolution is needed to get maximum quality
I have a 22" lcd monitor for my computer and a 37" hd tv for my games in the same room. When I am playing my systems I like to be sitting down on a couch relaxing and playing in front of a bigger screen :). Thats why I chose a hd tv over monitor for 360 and ps3.nooblet69
have u tried playing it on ur monitor??? is the video quality crappier like the guy said?

Depending on the monitor, it will stretch the image to the height of the screen. Yeah, it's HD, but i'd take SD over stretched any day.

I have a 50" pioneer hdtv and a 20" dell widescreen monitor.I prefer the look of the monitor.I couldn't care less about gaming on the big screen,I prefer to watch movies on that.Monitors actually cost more per inch and are better quality in my opinion.davaniius

yea, but not everyone has that nice dell monitor, i seen some crappy monitors out there with horrible b&c ratios.

Really? I have the L204wt as well, and stretching was my main concern. What exactly does it do to the image on 1080p? Is there any way at all to display the image with black bars at the top/bottom?

this is what it looks like on our monitors at 1080p

the scalar made the input full screen, but it seem to have done well

Thanks. If only I had an in-game shot as well.
Does it seem to chop off parts fo the screen to fit the resolution? It just seems weird how it goes about doing that without stretching. I'd hate to lose parts of the interface while playing a game.

you won't lose any part of the image, just the image is stretched to fit 16:10

Alright, thanks.
if you buy a monitor with 1-to-1 pixel display, then you're good to go. There's no need to have 16:9. Dell's 2407, 2707, 3007 are among those monitors with 1:1 display.
I'm using Dell's 2405,the monitor will automatically leave the top and bottom blank/black and have 16:9display.
And @melvinvth, I'm recommending 2407FPW not just because its display quality but also its native HDCP support. You can enjoy 1080P games/movies on 2407FPW w/o any hassels.
I got a 1000:1 22" widescreen monitor for my 360 and I plan on getting a PS3. p.s. does the PS3 come with HD component cable or do you have to buy it, and does it have VGA cable?how come people dont buy monitors for their ps3 ?
i saw a samsung one for $250 22" with DVI (HDCP)
a HDTV at that size would cost around 600 bucks...maybe more
how come do people still buy HDTV's to play ps3 on?

Because I have a 28" SDTV, no way that I´m going to downgrade the size just to go HD.
Bigger size in SD does almost look better than a smaller size in HD.
And since the future is HD, why not buy a HDTV if you really want to play your games in HD? That way you don´t have to buy one later.

because most people will also use that HDTV for watching TV/DVDs/blu-ray.
I use a monitor for much the same reason as other posters, it's much more affordable HD setup. Sans gaming, I have no reason to buy a HDTV.
There are a lot of misconceptions about monitors being horrible and stretchtastic. Even with cheaper monitors that don't feature 1:1 pixel mapping, 95% of people won't notice the 16:9 > 16:10 stretching, the 5% that do are probably intentionally looking for faults. It's nothing like trying to stretch a 4:3 image to 16:9.
