I never knew why so many people didn't like him.

Maybe it's because he had a touch of feminine to him and it turned off a lot of gamers.

I never really had a problem with him the first time I played MGS2 through. But when I played it through again, I noticed he whined an awful lot. I don't hate him, just found him annoying at times.Flame_Blade88

Did you say "nerd"? Raiden's personallity feelt like a typical JRPG guy. His relationship with Rose just got way overboard with too much: "Do you remember what it's tomorrow" and this really embarrasing: "Why won't you sleep with me". Because he's not a man. Do the math, Bimbo.

I never hated him, in fact, I preferred him to Snake and I can honestly say that he is one of my favorite characters ever created in a videogames, the reason, showed emotion and confusion, like a normal human being. Also, the dude was hella young, like early 20's I believe in MGS2 so of course he is still green compared to Snake. But I guarantee, you pit him against Snake and Snake would get brutally prison raped with the quickness, especially now, seeing as he's now a cyborg.

Also, the story behin him is superb, kid solider since like 10 or whatever, parents killed, adopted by Solidus, genetically engineered, brainwashed, used by god knows by who, transofrmed into a cybord, only dude that can hang with Vamp and looks like probably ends up killing him, should I go on?

So I just think most people hated him cause they wished they could be him, either that or they wanted to play as Snake too much.

Fair enough but you can only form an opinion on the real facts we have. And they are at the moment the facts from the MGS2 story. I did say in an earlier post that he looks like he's toughned up in MGS4 so a lot of peoples opinions may change but none of us know what exactly will happen in MGS 4 yet. Now where's that blanky? I'm sure I saw one around here some where with an R embroided on it.

The people who think they were 'tricked' don't deserve to play the series anymore. To me it just says that they didn't pay attention very much to his story and it's relevance to the plot line. All you that hate him care about is playing a game with pretty graphics where you can spray bullets and other peoples blood everywhere. 'nuff said

He has his place in the story, so I wonder the same. His story gets to be just as interesting as Snakes IMO. I hope he is playable in MGS4, I really really want to play as a cyborg ninja in that game it would rock, and would complement Snake's one eyed pirate appearance, yar.ringbling

The one thing I will say about Raiden that he does give a chance of the MGS series to live on. I know Kojima has said this will be the last one but you can never say never can you? IMO I don't think there will be a five... Also I think that Raiden will suffer the same faith as Olga and Frank before him. I mean Ninjas were meant to die. Like Raiden could live through MGS4. Most likely he dies but also takes Vamp with him prior, at the same time or after his death. Maybe we'll get to play as Young Snake in MGS4. I mean Kojima tricked us once already, why not twice... Or maybe there will not be a Young Snake at all... Beats me. I hope Kojima does something unexpected... Most likely but still I hope it has something to do with the gameplay...

On topic: Raiden stole Snake's chair. That's why we hated him, until we saw the cyborg version. I mean now Raiden totally kicks ass. Back in the day I always made fun of Raiden but now, how could I? I mean Raiden is freaking awesome. I hope that I get to play him, at least in MGO...

The biggest reason they put Raiden in MGS2 was because they wanted to put something in for the ladies.

In japan woman LOVE feminine guys. Over there they call it Bishounen. Thats the biggest reason they had him in the naked scene.

I do agree he was a bit whiny but after seeing the movie from MGS4 i gotta say he's my fav character now.

I think you are forgetting something?? Snake was used the same way by Liquid in MGS1!!! Snake ended up powering up the metal gear REX!! Thats pretty stupid too no?? See thats why Raiden whined cause like he said wherever he went people used him! His GF used him (to be honest SHE was like 18726727 times more annoying than Raiden) Not to mention he was pretty young too. Oh and also Snake whined a lot at the end of MGS1!! I think you need to go play MGS1 again.

OK first off yea he could be snake NOW cause snake is no longer in his prime and Raiden is a freaking cyborg. If Snake was still young and fought Raiden as a human or cyborg he would put the beating on him. Do you remeber gray fox? yea thats what I thought. Also Raiden does have a good story, but Snake is no different.

Snake is a clone and was birthed into this world with no freedom. He was raised to become a soilder and "protect" his country. He has been lied to ungodly amounts of times and even had to kill his best friend and father. He took down REX with I think its stronger then RAY. Since RAY seems mroe like a water type gear and REX is more land type. Also Snake didint have trouble taking down RAY he didint even really fight ray the dam thing broke out the ship and did he have rockets like Raiden nope he did not.

To be honest I dont like Raiden because he whines alot. He just isint as badass as snake.

When I started playing MGS2, I already heard how much people dispised Raiden. So I played as Snake for a level and then it was onto Raiden. At first, I didn't really mind him. Seemed a tad bit clueless, but other than that, he was okay.

Then it all changed.

Fist of all, he needs the cornell's help when reaching EVERY FREAKING ROOM. Not only that, but he kept slipping on the Seagull droppings which was just way too embarrasing on his part for me to have any sympathy/respect for him at all. He starts whining a whole bunch and I found it frusterating how he's a wimp when talking to Rosemarry. He trips alot, does cartwheels, and asks too many questions. This might have been okay if we were able to play as Raiden BEFORE Snake, but once you play as such an awesome character like Solid Snake, other characters who would have been okay are completely no-match in coolness.

tl;dr? Playing as Raiden after playing as Solid Snake just makes Raiden look bad.
