Why people pre-order games? When places like gamestop or best buy have plenty of copies.Ive seen over 50 copies of GTA IV in gamestop and loads of MGS4 copies. So why dl you pre-order?fusionhunter
The reason I pre-order games is only when you get a Demo or Beta or something cool with the game! Another reason I would pre-order a game is if I am trading in a game and pre-ordering game with a trade in gives you more trade in value at Gamestop:D
i never pre-order games cause theres always a bunch of copies. But i am thinking of pre-ordering Little Big Planet just for all the goodies.
Well pre ordering a game is vital depending on where you live I guess and obviously what game it is and how much hype built up behind it.
But yeah one: guarentee my copy and two: exclusive content
I answered this same question sometime yesterday, so I'll copy and paste my response here.
Well, for a few reasons.
First of all, the store I buy my games at is a 5 minute drive from my house, whereas the next store is a 15-20 minute drive. I pre-order because I work 7 days a week, usually 70+ hour weeks, so my time is extremely valuable, and if my local GameStop is sold out then I don't have the time to go elsewhere.
Second, as for the belief that games don't sell out, well that's simply not true. It all depends on where you live, how popular the game is, and the location of the store. Again, since my GameStop is far closer then any other store, it's a hot-spot for game orders.
In addition to all of that, pre-ordering does not cost any extra cash. For peace of mind, I can lay $5 down and forget about it. Again, since my time is so valuable, peace of mind is a big thing for me.
Lastly, as has been happening more and more lately, there's often some free swag involved. For instance, when you pre-order Mirrors Edge, you get a free runner bag. With Mercenaries 2, you get a magazine and a beanie. With Fable 2, you get free XBLA games.
For me, having the ability to pre-order is a big deal. Aside from the occasional free goodies, I get peace of mind knowing that I'll get the game I want on the day it's out and not worry about having to set aside time that I really don't have to spare.
Looking at it from that perspective, the better question is, why not pre-order?;)

Because I'd rather put $5 down to insure I don't spend $15 in gasoline driving all around town looking for a copy of the game I want. The gamestops here usually run out of popular games unless you preorder.
If a game comes out on the 29th or something I'll pay it in full earlier in the month so I'm not broke the day it comes out.
nice collectionSometimes you can get stuff you coudn't get if you didn't preorder but I totally agree in saying preordering is sort of pointless.

Well, I wouldn't say completely pointless, some people in this thread have justified their reasoning for pre-ordering.

I pre-order so I can pay it off in advance. That way I'm not dropping $60 all in one chunk. I just go in and pick up my game at launch. Also, pre-order benefits are a plus. But that's more of a bonus and not a real reason why I do it.watson_twenty5
thats my reason also
