So you can recieve and send messages in game, hopefully send game invites in game, check to see what your friends are playing in game,hopefully be able to play music in game,hopefully being able to view tropies and friends trophies in game.
Theres allot of great features that could be used with in game XMB.
At the moment you would have to quit a game just to read a message somebody sent you.
In game XMB is one of the big improvements i hope sony is working on.

in my opinion i think they should keep the in game options seperate from that of the XMB, much like the XBOX guide is its own entity with some functionality while the dashboard is the home menu with everything. I think the XMB just overlaying the screen would be too large and cumbersome for ingame music, messaging ,etc.
Its easy and convienent. Its a great tool for looking at your main bar when in game and stuff. Instead of the usual now, quitting and checking your messages you can do it right in game. Its a lot easier and better imo..
I would personally love this feature to be included sometime soon, its tiresome quitting a game so i can read a message from my friend that says "Hey wanna play Rainbow Six" or something like that.

Well, since you don't own one (yet) no wonder you're asking 'Why'. :P lol.... Only joking. Just for Convenience sake.
oh so right now, freind messages literally have no purpose....hookd_on_heroes
They don't have no purpose. From the XMB you can say I'm going to create a game and then invite you or something like that and then meet up online that way. But it would be better if while you were in the game you could read and send messages.
