Why does Sony take so long?

I was just wondering, why does the playstation store get updated so damn slowly? I began checking it every day when I got my PS3, then realised there was no need, so i checked it every week. Now i don't even bother. The 360 page sems so much more, more graphics, options menus etc its more exciting. Why dont Sony put some bloody effort in?

If you're talking about the design of the store, then yeah, it needs an update. If you're talking about content, then realize that PSN is really new and it takes time to make games. The game library's been growing pretty swiftly, and has some great games (ie Warhawk, Tekken 5, Everyday Shooter) on it. As it gets updated weekly, relax and just check it once every thursday night or friday morning.osirisomeomi

Can i ask you something else cause it sound like you'd know, whats this talk of the new PS3, not that the PS3 is old!, that it now has a 65nm designed chip? Wasnt that just the new 360? If so can someone explain to me what the point in supporting SONY at top dollar was?DeltaCobra

From what I've read, the 65nm chip just uses less energy than the other ones. That's all I got from the article.

The 360 doe's not have weekly updates like the PS3.

The 360 has XBLA wednesdays thats when it releases the arcade and new downloadble games.

360 gets demo's video's etc anyday of the week sometimes even sunday but mainly duting the week.

I agree with the TC, the PSN store is quite poor when compared with the 360, basicly the PSN store is a webpage accessed through the web browser(it doesnt start up in the web browser, but when you click store thats what happens) where as 360's store is intergrated into the dashboard and looks cool and is allot quicker and easier to navigate, but its not really a problem the PSN store works fine the way it is although it would be cool if it was intergrated into the XMB.

Also i disagree with the "give them more time theory" 360 got XBLA games on day one and gets them 90% of every wednesday sometimes more than 1.

360 had more original titles within the same time PS3 has, also Sony have a vast libary of psone games but very rarely add any new ones, they also allow updated classics like 360 but it seems they have very few in development.

I dont expect them to add new original dl games every week and they seem to have quite a few good ones coming echo chrome for instance thats not the problem IMO, its the classics, i'm sure they could have added allot more classics if they wanted too, wheres metal gear,gran turismo these are games that should be added.

And it be nice if they ramped up the DL arcade games like street fighter,sonic etc.

But microsoft gets good money from xbl accounts so they make good profit from paying for licenses for classic games and re-development as all of them have improved graphics,leaderboards etc.

Also sony really need to add demos with every dl title they put up, its makes good for testing those games, i might have paid for a few of there psn games if i could have tried them first.

IMO 360 and wii are leaps and bounds ahead of sony in terms of downloable content.

Its basicly one of the only flaws i see in the PS3 especially the E.U store(wheres everyday shooter) and also the community features other than that its great.

I completely agree with you. I know Sony has always been kind of a slow starter, but this is kinda disappointing a bit. I remember Phil and Kaz talking about having classic Genesis games and all this and all that what the PS3 will have. Sure XBL and Wii have it, but what happend with Sony? I could honestly care less about a bunch of movie trailers I can see on commercials on cable TV, wasting space on PSN. Atleast give us something aside from 10 mediocre PS1 games that I don't even care about or these small 5.99 games I could probley play in Flash on a website for free.

I know 2008's going to be "the hit year", but something decent atleast would be some what nice.

360 has an aged network, PSN is still very new. Also it's not Sony it's the devs they need to make PS3 demos, wallpapers etc for their games.

THE 360 is using the mature XBOX network.

the main thing thats annoyed me is the lack of those playstation cards

im 16 with a ulster bank credit card(northern ireland) and the ps3 will not accept it (either does the 360 btw) and i want to buy crash bandicoot,spyro,medievil and crash team racing of the classic games section raaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwr

Compare PS3 to Wii in terms of games which has been out just as long. PS3 has far more games. Sony is doing awesome for as long as the system has been out. Also as far as download content goes one thing to keep in mind is almost every game that comes to the PSN store is original and exclusive. Eventually Sony is going to open the gates on original Playstation games too. That's just a given.

I know PSN hasn't been out long for the PS3 but this isn't the first time Sony have tried online. They also added it to the PS2 so they should have already had some experience with online.

People say it not Sony fault about the lack of online content in games, demo etc but they are the ones running the PSN. Sony should put more pressure on game company to add online content and demo for each of there games like MS does. I know it harder for Sony as developers are less willing to make a demo for the PS3 because of the low user base and because of longer development time for PS3 games but Sony has to start doing something.

Its a joke when a game like Virtua Fighter is hyped for the PS3 then gets released at a later date with online added to the 360 version.

Look, let's be honest, PSN sucks, it sucks hard. Anyone that can't see that or wants to make excuses about time or yadda yadda yadda, they either are fanboys, don't know what the hell they are talking about, or have not used a 360 orWii online.

I think it comes down to 1 thing and 1 thing alone. HOME. Sony had it planned from the start, they thought it would be out by now, and I think they basically said screw everything else right now, and put all thier online people on working on HOME. If truth be known, they probably have PSN working on a skeleton staff right now, and they have extra people working on all of Home's online connections and it's marketing and DLC outlets, and PSN is just sitting there neglected.

It's really starting to hit hard now though, because it's been so long with little or no improvement, and had Home released on time, they would be on the way to making it better, but for now it looks as if we are in for more months of frustration.

I'm willing to wait until after Home is released, and see what happens in the first few months after that and exactly what Sony does with thier online content and all that stuff, but if they don't seriously turn things around by then, I'm going to be one very angry customer, free service or not.

I have a PS3 dude.

My origninal XBOX had ninja gaiden.... and i love it on PS3. Unreal is coming to everything as far as i know, i think it hits PS3 first though... for like 2 months? i not sure so don't quote me:)

The thing is the PS3 has now had long enough. TRUE? the PS3 is light years ahead with its technology or some **** TRUE? then where's the difference? that is my point my friend. The PS3 is failing in itsonline service, its catalog of games and the whole experience.

I find it amazing how you can sit there and defend it when we both paid such a high price tag for it, got no good service or games for it, and then just when Sony are thinking of releasing some good games for it, they drop the price. Good business? Probably. But video games like cars or other luxury goods have a loyalty attachment. If i get screwed by Sony this time, am i going to be one of the first IDIOTS to lay down the big money for an inferior good with nothing backing it? (AND I WAS one of those idiots)

You talk about racing games? Back in 2006 PGR3 was amazing, seriously put it on a HD TV now. Its better than F1. ITS NOT "F1" but F1 isn't sports cars either. Im not getting into a preferences argument. IM talking technology. Im talking value. Im talking getting screwed for my buck.

Its all good. Like i said i have no choice but to wait, so i will wait. But that does not mean its not lousy on every aspect. The SOny PS3 reckons its a multimedia centre, rubbish. It doesnt even hook up to an iPOD for gods sake, which my XBOX does beautifully mind you. XBOX hooks straight up to a PC and streams media. ITS NOW OLD TECH.

IF the PS3 was to make a statement, it had to come out with something, at launch (god knows the had enough time right? fair enough comment?)that would blow gears out of the water. Forget Halo that just crushes us even more.

My mum wants a PS3 as a blu ray player cause they ARE A CHEAP blu ray player.

Let me just say this. When XBOX 1 came out, i was gobn smacked. HALO 1.... damn..) When PS2 came out... Amazing...

XBOX360 .... amazing..... PS3... Double the price, less quality and a year later still "waiting on empty promises".

WITH THE TIME THE PS3 HAD TO PREPARE, QUALITY SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE/

I hope your right dude and in ANOTHER 6 months, we can all say "WOW isn't the PS3 great, look at the creativity and range etc..." Ill be there cheering with you.

red rings is like the only thing us PS3 owners have got to.. i dont know? poke fun at while we wait for games to come out?

Exactly, I'm sick of people complaining how the PSN looks. Seriously, why would you play a 10 year old PS1 game if R & C and Heavenly Sword are out now.

Who cares if the PSN "looks" ugly. How many hours do you spend browsing it anyway. Usually when I go into the PSN, I buy what I want and exit. It takes 10 mins, tops.
