Why doesn't it say Pal and NTSC on PS3 games? It does so on all PS2 games, so I was just wondering why?

So you can import games from Japan and play them on your American PS3.

I think the games are region free.

Well does it say Pal or NTSC on your copies......

If they are region free does this mean that all versions of one game is the exact same? If yes why don't they release all PS3 game at the same time in all territories?

PS3 games are region-free meaning any game from any region will play on any PS3 from any region. This is not true for Blu-Rays or DVDs or PS2 games by the way.

Not really: many PS3 games are region free but some are not. However, if a game is played in 720i or above, every game will work on any PS3. As for Blu-ray movies, some movies are region free. If on the back of a Blu-Ray you see an A, a B and a C, it means it will work on any PS3, same applies if the movie has no letters at all. I know for a fact that "Blade Runner", "Superbad" and " Fools Gold" are region-free but certain movies like Hitman(to name one) is region-blocked. As for PS2 games, yeah they're all region-blocked.

Now in answer to the ZiggyStardust's question, PAL and NTSC and so on have changed to 1, 2 and 3. However, most games are region-free. Heavenly Sword and FEAR are two games that I know for sure are region-blocked but you can solve this by connecting your PS3 to an HD-ready TV with an HDMI cable. I know that there are a bunch of lists on the net of games that are region-blocked(only for standard tvs though).

Look on the side of the box, see the globe with the number next to it? Thats the region... Even if PS3 games are region-free it still says what region its from...

I'm not saying you're lying but I've yet to see/hear about a PS3 game region locked. And the fact that you don't provide me with examples for those games makes your point null.

As for the movies they are ALL region locked. But if this "lock" is open for all regions, the movie can be played on any Blu-Ray around the globe. You said it yourself A,B and C is showed on the back of the package, meaning the disc can be played anywhere. It can be taken as region free but...

why THIS is not included on game cases?? because they are region free... catch my point??

Strangle Hold is region locked, they did it because the collectors edition has the movie Hard Boiled on the blu-ray, but for some reson they also locked the standard edition.

On the back of the box you should see a small black square with a globe and the number 2 in it, its just above the code bar, to the left.

PS3 games are region free.Thats good for now(uptil around 2010) but as soon as the piracy hits PS3,its going to be one of the most hardest blows ever. There wont be any need to chip mod it.One can just copy and paste a disc and run the game. And if sony trys to counter it,pirates will counter it even harder,as PS3 has a HARD DISK and FULL INTERNET ACCES.Pirates can practically copy ANY software or hacker straight onto the Ps3s hard drive. And if people in third world countries like india, pakistan, bangladesh, sri lanka..etc...etc..and some developing countries like china, thailand, vietnam, malaysia can get a mod chip for 40$.They wont hesitate to keep upto date with the pirates !

Technically, that's not a region-lock, it's just that some games don't support both PAL and NTSC signal which means PAL standard TVs that don't support 60 Hz mode can't display the game (and vice versa).

I think it will say that on the side where it says the code for the game. Like for Oblivion it says BLUS and some random numbers that are on it. Now I'm not sure if it will say BLEU I guess for European game boxes but I'm definitely sure that it has something to do with that little code there.

ps3 games are region free as long as its connected through HDMI or Component. If the ps3 is connected using a composite cable the it will no longer be region free. i believe its like that.

Just to clear this misconception up, 720i doesn't exist. 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p are all the the resolutions available on console games.

It doesn't say PAL or NTSC anymore because Sony adopted the DVD region numbers for its games rather than the PAL/NTSC desginations. So now NTSC is Region 1, PAL is now Region 2, etc. Plus region free is pretty common now, so importing is a big thing too.
