So you can import games from Japan and play them on your American PS3.
I think the games are region free.
Well does it say Pal or NTSC on your copies......
If they are region free does this mean that all versions of one game is the exact same? If yes why don't they release all PS3 game at the same time in all territories?
PS3 games are region-free meaning any game from any region will play on any PS3 from any region. This is not true for Blu-Rays or DVDs or PS2 games by the way.abdelmessih101

Not really: many PS3 games are region free but some are not. However, if a game is played in 720i or above, every game will work on any PS3. As for Blu-ray movies, some movies are region free. If on the back of a Blu-Ray you see an A, a B and a C, it means it will work on any PS3, same applies if the movie has no letters at all. I know for a fact that "Blade Runner", "Superbad" and " Fools Gold" are region-free but certain movies like Hitman(to name one) is region-blocked. As for PS2 games, yeah they're all region-blocked.
Now in answer to the ZiggyStardust's question, PAL and NTSC and so on have changed to 1, 2 and 3. However, most games are region-free. Heavenly Sword and FEAR are two games that I know for sure are region-blocked but you can solve this by connecting your PS3 to an HD-ready TV with an HDMI cable. I know that there are a bunch of lists on the net of games that are region-blocked(only for standard tvs though).

I'm not saying you're lying but I've yet to see/hear about a PS3 game region locked. And the fact that you don't provide me with examples for those games makes your point null.
As for the movies they are ALL region locked. But if this "lock" is open for all regions, the movie can be played on any Blu-Ray around the globe. You said it yourself A,B and C is showed on the back of the package, meaning the disc can be played anywhere. It can be taken as region free but...
why THIS is not included on game cases?? because they are region free... catch my point??

Strangle Hold is region locked, they did it because the collectors edition has the movie Hard Boiled on the blu-ray, but for some reson they also locked the standard edition.

Didn't know this, as I was never interested on stranglehold... weird!!
Technically, that's not a region-lock, it's just that some games don't support both PAL and NTSC signal which means PAL standard TVs that don't support 60 Hz mode can't display the game (and vice versa). Now in answer to the ZiggyStardust's question, PAL and NTSC and so on have changed to 1, 2 and 3. ps3 games are region free as long as its connected through HDMI or Component. If the ps3 is connected using a composite cable the it will no longer be region free. i believe its like that.bebot00
Your beliefs are wrong, paper boy!!
