Why dont they sell PS2 games in the PSN store?

Since they took away BC in the PS3s I think they should definately do what MSoft did with the Xbox Live Marketplace and start selling PS2 games, I havea whole list of games that I want to get(before you tell me to go buy a ps2, please read http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/rpg/finalfantasy12/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-53295003&pid=459841). Im not really sure why they took away BC, seems like it would cause them to lose money not make it. ANYwho, have they said anything about this? I mean, if they can sell a few PS3 games in the PSN store I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to sell PS2 games as well.. it would probably be a pretty good money maker.

The PS2 is still selling pretty well on the market right now. Why would they put PS2 games on PSN and lose money from selling their PS2 consoles?

I don't see the fact that the PS2 is stil selling as a factor really. Most PS2 sales aren't coming from people who already own PS3s. Sony surely doesn't expect many PS3 owners to go back and buy a PS2. Being able to sell PS2 games on the PS Store would actually make them far more money.

There is speculation that an announcement could come at E3.

I think they'll get around to it soon, but at the moment the ps2 is selling well etc so they are inclined to wait a little while yet.

I'm pretty sure they'd have to add ps2 software emulation to the ps3, which would make the ps2 obsolete for anyone who owns a ps3. I expect them to add it soon, or atleast I hope they will becasue I have tons of ps2 games that I want to play on my ps3.

The emulation is true but it didn't work out so well when the released the partially BC PS3 so I am sure they are currently working very hard to get a 100% reliable emulation software before they begin putting PS2 game on PSN. It has nothing to do with any life cycle or how well the PS2 is doing because they would expand their market and reach more people at a very low cost by providing PS2 games on the PSN.

When it happens PSN will become pure win.

I think they'll start sell PS2 games when they start open for their Premium PSN Service. Maybe something like pay less for PS2 when you're PSN Premium, so everyone will pay for PSN Premium Service but it is only a guess so don't take me too serious lol.

This I really do not know why. I would also like to know if it is just to much to have an USB analog nub to add so PS2 games can be played on PSP??

The only reason why Sony would do this is that they are afraid that...??? people would play PS2 games and not PS3 games?? IDK, They had many chances to doa lot but due to fear they did not and another company did it and made $$$ (apple Ipod, Itunes, Hulu, Netflex, ...)

I have reason to believe that if they did put ps2 games on psn, there'd only be a handful of games available on there after 2 years time. I mean look at the Psone classics; they're missing a lot of gems.

rumours from last yr was that ps2 and dreamcast games were heading to ps3's psn store, but no timeline was given (leaked from a sega document). Since sony have announced ps move, the only announcements i can see is the premium psn and ps2 games on psn. Would then love it if they also announced dreamcast titles as well.

I've been wondering the exact same thing, or better yet, a firmware update THAT ACTUALLY ALLOWS ME TO PUT PS2 DISKS IN MY PS3. I mean, if a programmer in a basement could make a PS2 emulator for computers, why can't a big company like Sony make one for the PS3?deathxxshark

One thing perhaps worth noting is that those emulators demand a lot more memory than the PS3 actually has (even when you factor the OS).

not all ps3s are BC, itd be a waste of... cyber space

if all of em did they prolly would have,

the only reason ps1 games are on their is cause all ps3s (and even psps) can play them, plus their smaller, and arent sold in almost any stores anymore

i think they might come out with a firmware up date, that lets your ps3 play ps2 games, along with download ps2 titles.. (this could be in the hole rumor paid PSN thing)

They definitely will, its just a question of when. Like of everyone else said, they will probably start selling them when they discontinue support for the PS2.

If they were to do this they better get some good games on the store like the big sellers, not ones that are very uncommon like some other things on PSN *cough* PSX games *cough*

Yeah i dont really want to buy a ps2 either and i dont get how they would lose money on it either if they made a friggen firmware update to allow ps2 discs to be played on ps3, why they havent done it stumps me, just throw it in the package ffs, i mean you say "it only does everything" then live up to it.
