Why I'm dreading the slim version...

It has nothing to do with appearance. In fact, I think it looks quite sleek. Nothing to do with the specs, either.

I am mostly pissed off about the price drop.

PS3 is expensive, sure, but that worked out quite well to establish a decent demographic of PS3 players. Moreover, a high price ensured that most serious gamers have a PS3 because they're the only one shelling out their money for the system (i.e. not just "anyone").

Now compare that to, say, Xbox 360, whose demographics mostly include 14 year old kids glued to their FPS and squealing through their mics about headshot and "teabagging" until you hear their moms in the background telling them to go to bed. Xbox 360 is more popular amongst them because it's cheaper and their parents can afford it. Most PS3 players are adults (there are exeptions, I'm aware) which ensured a nice, enjoying online gaming experience.

With the price drop, however, make no mistake that a massive "Xbox migration" will take place, and the people you play Killzone or CoD with will be these very 13 year olds who are so annoying that you would crush your headset and mute your TV just so you won't hear them.

Unfortunately you're probably right. However, I think PS3 is the best system and derserves to be the number 1 selling system (or at least 2...may not be able to beat out the wii), so now maybe it's sales will finally reflect it's quality. Also, it could mean more top-notch exclusives for PS3. Overall I think the price drop is for the best, but there certainly will be some downsides.

No because i don't own one but i have a buddy who does and says the PSN is a much more enjoyable expierence.

Well, only what I've heard. But it's not completely void of it and you're not "mature" because you have a PS3. Sure, a lot of kids have a 360. But I couldn't tell you because I don't actually own one. But I've come across my fair share of those "people" over PSN. Especially with most FPS games. I bash the xbox because i have had to send it in for re-pair way to many times, and people always say "buy a new one" well if you want to buy it for me go for it, i don't want to buy 2 consoles because the first one was poorly made.

I just don't like the immaturity of XBL if the PSN is the same way well at least ill be playing for free and with no worry about it dying out.

As long as the PS3 sells like hotcakes from now on, all I can picture are more and more support (games) coming to the platform. No matter how you look at it, the more hardware that is sold = more games, accessories, PSP's(?), and money for Sony and there division; which also brings better quality games, competition, better "filmware" for every once needs and dreams. Imagine 50 million people screaming for more PS1 games or Cross game chat or PS2 B/C update! etc. etc.

Bottom line.... the more systems sold, the better off Sony and there supporters (we) will see bigger and better things in the future (PS4) and what not.

I just bought a ps3, sorta kicking myself in the ass though since this slim things coming out. either way i have the xbox and the playstation, love em both. I just hope that the ps3 i bough lasts longer than my xbox which ive gone through 4 in the last 2 years.Was the main reason i got one

I didn't read all the comments so sorry if someone else mentioned this but honestly, I don't mind little kids, if they play the game and aren't jerks to everyone I think they're fine. I don't have a PS3 yet because the money hasn't rolled my way quite yet so I welcome the price drop, but I do understand why you might be concerned. I don't know but the kids I've played with online before, while some were annoying I always find that most kids who played the games were pretty cool.

I don't think this would be a big problem, maybe a few more annoying people here and there, but it would encourage more people who actually play, probably way more then the annoying crowd, so it would make it even out or the players would drown out the annoying crowd even more.

EDIT: Sorry I didn't mention how the time I have played online with headsets was onxbox live at my friends house, I've ran into five little kids, and I've played for several hours at his house because we'll be chilling and he'll fall asleep, then I'm playing for a long time waiting for him to wake up, rinse lather repeat. So I've played for quite awhile, I never really found them a problem, I've probably found about the same amount of annoying adults (I never said all five of those kids were annoying.)

i see your point TC but the 360 has the party system. so you never have to hear little kids again :) lol. it would be nice if psn had an update with this feature. although i never come across people that have a headset for the PS3. i rarely ever use my headset for my PS3 because of it.

I think the slim will usher in a better era for sony gamers in general while i still have my 60 gb with a 160 gb hard drive im going to get an 160 gig before theyre discontinued so il wont have to go slim if anything happens but as far as developer support a bigger install base ushers in more content, maybe i can finally get the much awaited remake ive been looking for *coughSquare Enixcough* lol
