It may be that you are sitting pretty close.  Or you might not how your PS3 set in HD mode.  It could still be set in SD.

Because the movie has a bad transfer.  Remember.. most movies are still shot with film.  The studios need to clean up the grain.  Some do a better job than others.

The movie isnt Black Hawk Down?

That movie has a kind of grain to it anyway, the best thing you could do is watch something like open season, you can really see the quality in the encoding for that movie, since it was all rendered digitally anyway.

Casino Royal has a pretty good picture, but your allways going to have an element of grain with real movies, of the 3 normal Blu ray movies i own, Casino Royale, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of heaven, Casino Royale has the least grainy picture, thats not to suggest BHD and KOH have poor picture quality they dont, far superior to the DVD.

Like i said try something animated like Open Season, it has amazing picture quality, if your getting grain problems it could be something not functioning correctly, IE, TV, PS3, ect ect.

Grain comes from the medium that the movie was recorded in.  If, for example, you watched ALIAS on TV in HD, it was waaaaay grainy, since they used actual film for the show.  Shows that use digital cameras, or an entirely digital feature like Cars or Ice Age, will have no grain what so ever due to the medium once again.

Also, as someone said, transfer quality has much to do with it.  Bad transfers happen on DVD and BRD, so reading up in the mags before purchasing is always advised.

Read the HDTV Guide V2.0. There are many questions about the Playstation 3 and HDTV. That thread will probably answer any questions you have, if not feel free to post in that thread. Please do not post new threads about HDTV. As much as HDTV has to do with the Playstation 3 we've found HDTV threads can overwhelm the forum and really they're about HDTV and this is a Playstation 3 forum. Thus the thread. That's part of the stickies at the top of the forum...
