So why it's mgs (Metal Gear Solid)so popular??The mgs beta was a fiasco and i like mgs!!!

I'm not a big fan of MGS. The Twin Snakes was one of the worst games I've ever played. I'm not trashing it, just my opinion. Tons of people seem to disagree. Different strokes.

but what made MGS:TS the worst game you played? it couldnt have been the story... gameplay maybe? which might i add the gameplay in TS was much better then MGS from ps1.. let you do everything from MGS2 but in the MGS1 story but anyway... main character not "human" enough? (which doesnt count as story btw.. some people like to argue that)

i'm guessing the people who are saying it aint much of a story and you played more depth stories never played the orginal metal gear solid (ps1 version not any further back), the game what really lead the way in the genre it has the greatest story ever told, its intense things happened in that game what no one could ever come up with before it thats why its so popular for many gamers now unless your 18 and above maybe a lil below may of never played the first game, the second game was just the first revisited with different people it was a bit of a shame the story didnt go quite the way it shud of but number 3 was just amazing on how things turned out wiv big boss thats why its an amzing game.

come on good is you start of underwater come up frew into a warehouse where you have to sneak around and disable the guards take a lift and then all of a sudden snake changes into his suit, a chopper takes off the bosses in it are so orginal that no game had thought of how they would work ever before from the phsyco mantis boss where he follows every move u make with the controller and i mean every single move which was just revoluntionary at the time, or the big tank boss, then onto raven with his huge flame thrower and missle attacks, to the best where you and meryl are walking down and she gets shot by the best sniper ever, where u have to take her out wiv ur sniper. then u get put in jail and u have many options of how to escape back then. open to the big open space of a sniper battle agen, and then onto the greatest battle wiv metal gear or the fight on top against liquid. the story just unwound it self just perfectly to understand why you was there and then it gripped u wen things happened and there were twists it just made for a great playable movie experience, if u haven't played it then i suggest you do to fully understand mgs

I played in the japanese servers yesterday, which were the only one to be open, man, the game is far more awesome than you can imagine :D

the reason why the Metal Gear series is so popular is because of its plot and gameplay. When it came out for the ps1, the graphics and gameplay were top of the line. with 2 and 3 and even PO, it only gets better. Metal Gear itself laid the path for the stealth action genre.

the story is another reason why its so great. The characters and 3 dimensional and have more to them than what you first see. The booses are unique and intriguiing. and in a sense, the fact that it uses nuclear weapons almost makes it a realistic fantasy. well done game. for the most part, i play this game for the story. very entertaining.

Well you are right. Chrono Trigger was the story I was thinking that topped it.

The gameplay does throw me off. In TS, I remember the beginning. If you get spotted, 500 guys come piling up through the elevators, you crouch in a corner, and then suddenly they leave. Forgetting you ever existed. The stealth was very bad, your options were what...Crouch and walk? I thought other games like Splinter Cell/Manhunt/Hitman did the stealth better, and many games have done the shooter aspect better.

All in all, I guess it makes one decent package. It's just not my style. I'll give MGS4 a try though.

I'm guessing you've never played any mgs game before... because if you did you wouldn't be asking that question

Three words:

Super...Baby...Method

MGS1 performed as a stealth game far beyond those of the second gen platform such as 'splinter cell'. Splinter cell doesn't even touch the options and stuff you can do in MGS. Hiding under a box and moving around, the AI kicking the box and peeking through the hole and lifting the box, etc. Stealth games took what was already done on the PS1 in MGS1 and made games that didn't come close in my opinion to pulling off near the options or variations in the gameplay. Lest we not forget Psycho Mantis reading your mind and moving your controller on the floor.

Its the story for me along with the cut-scenes,voice acting,and the legend him self solid snake,and plus I grew up on it and I won't play games without a great story I think that what most games are missing now and days ya digg..

I would not say MGS gameplay is mediocre, maybe now it is, however if you are the one doing the innovation I think that merits some points.

MGS was the first game to do the peak around the corner thing, after that every other game copied.

Heck GeoW has a similar cover system to MGS.

What makes MGo so popular is:

Story

Atmosphere (mags, cigarettes, humor, extras, unlockables)

Gameplay (see above and also BOSS BATTLES)

and finally cinema (or cutscenes) they way they are done that increases the feel of the game , feels like a long movie, in a good way

Becaus MGS is MGS.

thats the truth! number one best part of the game... but everything else makes it amazing as well. gameplay is just awesome

Perhaps if one never owned or played MGS on a PSOne back in the day, they may be less likely to find it as amazing comparatively to the later gen stealth games (also less likely to have played through the whole thing). There may be something said for the generation/era that some of us were gaming in that has a lasting effect with the quality of this series and how the later ones compare.

Diazepam + Sniper Rifle = Gameplay

There was this one time, in Splinter Cell, when I snuck up behind a guard, shot him in the head and he turned around and killed me...

Anyway, on topic... I think MGS's story, voice and cinematics all make for a very visceral experience. I have always found the game mechanics to be lacking and sluggish but those things I mentioned kept me playing till the end. Quite simply, MG is the most entertaining game in it's genre.

All those games got thier ideas from Metal Gear Solid off the Ps1.... I mean your opinion is yours but man to say that there are alot of stories better than metal gear is whoa... I guess you could argue Chrono trigger and Final fantasies but those are RPG.. those stories are suppose to be great... thats all they're good for.

I for one love metal gear series for the little things they do:

1) in Metal gear solid one the Pycho mantis trick

2)in Metal gear solid 3 the trick you do to beat The End

3) in Metal gear solid 2 the big twist at the end about GW

4) codec conversations are great

5) The best boss battles ever

6)etc...

Truthfully I think people who hate Grand Theft auto, Metal Gear solid, and Halo series are just not liking them because they hate the fact that everybody else likes the games too... so in some way they think they are cool for not liking the games.

I like it because I grew up with it. It was my favorite game. Ironically, I never played FF7, I always wanted to but never got around to it. I even look for copies, but they go for as much as 400$ on ebay.

Anyways, people like solid snake, because He has that jason borne flavor you know? Hes always one step ahead of everybody. like, he has like 100 people after him, and he outsmarts them all. Like in The borne ultimatum, where borne tricked those people to leave the CIA headquarters to go look for him, and then called called the guy looking for him, and asked him where he was, and he said "Im in my office", borne said:"I doubt that"..."and why would you doubt that?"..."Because if you were in my office right now, we'd be having this conversation face to face"...

If your into that kind of story, where its singlehanded infiltration, watching someone outsmart an entire team of people over and over again, like the jason borne trilogy, then you will be interested by this game. The plot of this game is like playing a movie, you are constantly trying to figure out what is going to happen next.

i can understand younger people not understanding but when mgs1 came out...wow that was an awesome game! revolutionized everything about gaming, its game play was original and new, its acting was top of the line...specially for a ps1 game lol and its story was just great.

CT had a great story but its kinda old and chezzy if you ask me....just my opinon, the game is a classic buts that just my own opinon.

and i laugh at the people thinking mgs' gameplay is not top of the line and who think gta4 will be better...may get better ratings because it is overrated but mgs will blow gta out of the water

also its funny how people never say that mgs is overrated....lol because its not, its pure awesome!

oh yea my number one reason for loving mgs are the characters and story, main reason why i love any game.

for me its like 60% story and 40% gameplay...was thinking about picking up Heavenly sword, tried it at a friends...GREAT characters and story so far but....gameplay is soooooo crap.
