Well, the likes of "dating sims" aren't really popular (or generally known for that matter) in North America. I think your only option is importing and pray they come with an english translation of some kind.

 So you better not ever play any sports games, racing, or military, or really anything that isn't magic or in space because all those things you can do in real life too.. Dating sims are just a different type of RPG... they can be quite fun and often times have alot of good humor to be found... just because someone doesn't want to go shoot stuff up and save to world every minute of the day doesn't make that a bad thing.. an op there is a "Soul Breading" game coming out on PS3 i believe, from the sounds of it it sounds alot like a dating sim.. its supposedly based alot more around food though...

its and RPG where instead of killing monsters you're basically going through the events of a relationship.. There are quite a few good ones out there with stories that are just as involved as alot of non-action mangas or anime, but for some reason ignorant people think poorly of the people who play them...

no problem.. they aren't a very well known type of game outside of asia.. They're not for everyone but thanks for not bashing those who do enjoy them...

I love visual novels. Usually, dating sims will fall under this category, so I love them too. Like PoisoN_Facecam0 put perfectly, dating sims (visual novels) are just another kind of RPG. Just an alternative kind of game, not a creepy thing for people to play when they can't find themselves dates. Actually, the gameplay is almost EXACTLY like the Phoenix Wright games. I could say, "HAHA! What are you, a nerd? Go get some real guns, find a party of two girls, and find some REAL treasures in a race against a REAL psychopath instead of playing Uncharted 2!" I think there's a common misconception on dating sims. It's not actually simulating dates at all, or at least the Japanese visual novel kinds. They're basically pick-your-own-adventure kinds of books with jazzy anime character portraits on both sides, a background picture, maybe some music, and maybe some voiceovers. You read 95% of the time, and actually play maybe 3%. If this happens to be an adult dating sim, then... well, you know what happens to that last 2%. ;) So yeah, these are more like reading romance novels with pictures and sound if anything. There might be the the occasional mini-game or path-choosing, but it all comes down to enjoying something out of entertainment. Nobody actually gets to practice dating or substitute the real thing with this kind of game. It's purely entertaining fiction - a glorified book. I've played quite a few myself, and they're fantastic. The only reason I think that they've yet to break into western culture (if they ever will) is because of how most of them are presented through extreme anime-esque aesthetics - something not everyone enjoys as much as others. Shame too.

All the "good stuff" is taken out when they make dating sims for consoles anyways, so you arent missing much (unless hrs hours of reading just to get a digital girlfriend is that entertaining to you).
