Yeah... Its bull. What console SKU is yours curiously? Did you send it in at all? Or can you not afford the $191 or the $80? The other thing I find stupid... Europe has the best warranty out of all the continents since they dont got to pay for the same amount (I think its free, or the shipping is free...)RoganSarineIdk about that but we have something called continuous play which is.. you pay £2.50 a month and your PS3 is covered for any problems, they'll replace on your doorstep within 2 working days. NA should get it tbh.
Im about to go on a bit of a rant, this seems like the appropriate place so please share your hardware and customer service piss-offs lol So anyways I save up money and get a part time retail job to buy a ps3... I was nervous about the warranty because a year on something so expensive is sketchy to me but since i never had a playstation problem before I just gave in and bought it. Exactly 13 months later, the day after I bought Killzone 2 (day after release day 1st thing in the morning) it refused to read any discs! I was shocked because I never even physically touched the system to brake it! also i only played an estimated 4 hours of Killzone throughout the day. So i call sony, im interrupted as i explain the symptoms and im told to send it in. I google the issue and find literately hundreds of complaints, tutorials and repairs for this EXACT issue. By the way customer service responded and amount of complaints found that would leave me to believe this is a common issue and should be taken care of but NO...Haze-and-SesWell look at the definition of common - Occurring frequently or habitually. Hundreds of complaints even thousands don't count as common when we are talking about more that 14 million PS3's. All hardware period will have a small percentage of malfunctions unless they raise to the level of RROD then you can't realistically expect a common problem type of assistance.

I wish we all had the same warranty. customer service told me repair is the same cost ( $190 ) no matter the issue when I brought up the laser price. It made me feel like theyre profiting off selling me faulty hardware. I feel very ripped off as a customer to be honest, in my situation id either save up for the laser and buy an extended warranty or wait until e3 and HOPE for a price drop because atleast id have another year warranty.
About the common problem thing it makes sense that it wouldn't work in comparison to the millions of working playstations. I just wish some big gamer site or news company could confront big corporations about these things to atleast get a change of warranty. I think any problem in the hundreds is bad enough, especially looking at the amount of money we all pour into gaming. Haze-and-SesWell then you'll have to target all technology. There isn't a single piece of tech out there that wont have at least 1-3% failure. 3% of 10 million is 300 thousand so we are no where near that mark. Xbox's failure were in the millions so was dell's. Alas I do feel your pain it sucks to have to replace stuff but it happens to me all the time don't even get me started on headphones, keyboards, and flash drives and the more expensive the product the more it sucks to have them fail on you. In a perfect world we would get 3 - 5 years warranty on everything.
... sony asks for $190.97 when the blu ray laser itself costs 80 that i shouldn't even be paying for! the real piss off about the whole thing is that i had a serious sports injury that hasn't allowed me to work or do much at all in months but playstation. So now I don't even have the funds to buy the piece and repair it myself. This along with the yellow light should be covered! also please don't go defending them saying " 1% failure rate" or whatever bs statement because sony has not released customer service stats and please no crap on comparing to 360 because atleast microsoft acknowledges them and covers them in warranty.. I truly would get a 360 but im not interested in their games... only if they had psn, warhawk , mgs4 and Killzone 2 but anyways thats my rant feel free to go on a rant yourself. I feel your pain lolHaze-and-SesYour exact problems is the reason why I do NOT respect Sony, they act like their failure rates are so low but they fail to produce the numbers of defects. I've heard plent of people with the yellow light of death issue AND the blu-ray drive not reading game disk. Of course you'll get your barrage of fanboys calling you a fraud. Alas, at least the hardware is a little more reliable than most though.
It's times like this when I think the world would be better off if we just went back to pen and paper RPGs and boardgames.

Awesome.
Customer service has always been a pain in the @$$. The only problem is no one ever gets used to this.
that would be wrong to have to get used to this bs, ive ben using playstation products since 99 and they all still operate like new except for the ps3 which costs the most money and laser just happens to die out on the 13th month ... bs i wish north america had the monthly warranty, they would make more money and it wouldn't be such a @#$%^ its a win win situation.Customer service has always been a pain in the @$$.
