Because you need to save money when you make the highest, most technically advanced system out. And soon or latter, it will make about as much sense as putting NES compatibility in a unit.

Well, I suppose you're right....Besides, my brother has two consoles in his room (Wii/PS2) so why not have 2 in my room as well? (PS3 and that other console that has very similar functions)

Pretty much everyone with b/c on their ps3 say they barely ever use it and if you wanna in 5 years pull out the ps2 and if its broken youll prob find one for cheaper then like 100 bucks
I'm actually playing RE4, FFXII and KH2 on my PS3 at the moment. My PS2 broke down about a year ago, and I was left with a bunch of PS2 games collecting dust. Well when I heard about them removing bc from the PS3, I jumped on the last few MGS4 bundles left and I couldn't be happier. I can play all the PS3 games I want and I haven't had any problems yet playing my older PS2 games.
Sure sure, its easy enough to get a PS2 for cheap but hey, its alot simpler for me to have just one system plugged in. I just turn on that one system and can switch in and out any of the games I want. Plus I save myself a hundred bucks.
