ok guys i have been doin some research on how the arguements about whether FFXIII should be exclusive or not

i think it would be wise for Sony to secure this game as a exclusive because of three reasons

First FF has has had huge impact on the Sony brand and has helped sold many systems

Second FF would sell a minimum of 2-3 million systems in Japan alone A MINIMUM

And last if FF does go to the 360 it would be stripped down to a lower quality game because a game that is first and formost made for cell, it would have to be a totally different concept/game. Plus it was made on the blue ray so it required more space for more features. all that information would have to be COMPRESSED or made on multiple disks

Ok there Flame Away Guys but keep in mind im no fanboy

I own a ps3, original xbox, wii, ps2, gamecube, ds, gba, psp and already thinkin about getting 360

this is a gamers opinion

Well, I can see your points as to why it should be --- but it's all based on expense and potential profitability.

Its all about money, if square decides they dont have the money to make it only distributing the game for one console then it will come out on 360 and PS3. As for multiple discs...well all the FF games i've played (besides the NES and SNES games) were on multiple discs so not a big deal in my mind. I'm also not sure but i think i heard that the engine FFXIII will be running off of (the Whiite engine i belive) they coded for multiplatform purpose meaning it wouldnt be very hard at all to put it on another console.

Actually it can be compressed onto one disk by making the game run on 720p rather then the PS3's 1080p. And the 360 version would be on par with the PS3 version. Rumble and Live will make it a decent version I feel.

But do you really think that FF will sell well on the 360

i mean i bet you many people bought the ps3 thinking about what kind of games that the systems is going to get and one of those games have to have been the next FF

Most of the FF fanbase is on the Sony brand and RPGs aren't really the 360's thing

when i get my 360 im am expecting to playing some hardcore shooters and sports not some rpgs

if microsoft think that they can save the 360 in japan i don't think that is possible because Sony's ps2 showed the gamers in that region they dont need an xbox and i think that they will continue to have this same opinion for many more years to come

BTW VS. didnt do so well on the 360

I wonder why its going to be release fall of 2008? Maybe Square-Enix is giving the developers more time to work out the kinks on...XBOX LIVE?

FF should be an exclusive because even though it came out first on nintendo. The ps1 really put "squaresoft" on the map commercially. Plus its one of the original main ps1 games. Along with Ridge Racer, Tekken, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil and Metal Gear. All those games should all be exclusive. Even though no really plays ridge racer that much anymore lol.

FF is the reason why most ppl in the world want a ps3, it's a fact and the numbers from the past are the proof, it's the reality.

Why the hell people even mention Xbox Live? is the game multiplayer? no....will there be a leaderboard? why the hell should there be one? Will you need a shared buddy list for the game...no why would you need one? Will it be co op? even if it sound interesting Square Enix will probably not do it...so there is NO point in saying they could go cuz of how "great" xbox live is

White engine wasn't coded for multiplatform purposes. White Engine was made specificly for the architecture of Playstation 3, fully based upon the cell to calculate the polygons.

if this is true then this should conclude why it should be exclusive

it was made for Cell

No point in using the xbox live service

and it still sell in big numbers in Japan

Any other opinions on why it should go multiplatform I think that we have proven that money isnt everyting in the end its about how you look at the situation and how you approach it

Why I think FFXIII might not go multiplat is cuz they are confident it will be a system seller, look at this from the perspective of the new Gundam game in Japan, the game is "ok" but ONLY with the Gundam name and it managed to sold out in its first day and sold a CRAP load of PS3 with it, people even walked out with new PS3 "just cuz there is the new Gundam", I guarantee you people will even buy MORE PS3 just cuz the new FF is in it, Square Enix is a Japanese company with a focus on a Japanese market...were the PS3 is doing better than the 360

Taking another look at it, the new FF 20th anniversary games are coming to the PSP, if they actually were in all for the money they could just made a DS version too or just for the DS but they didn't, same goes for FFVII Crisis Core

sagaguchi (right name? sp?) doesn't even work for square enix anymore, they fired him even though he saved their company with the creation of final fantasy. His word doesn't mean crap, and he's obviously supporting microsoft because microsoft funds mistwalker........I haven't heard a current member of square enix say the white engine is multiplatform, so until I hear it from someone who actually works there, it's bull.

Also.....sony could throw some "thank" money square enix's way...should it get serious about FFXIII on the 360.

Bioshock started multiplatform pc, ps3, and 360......microsoft later changed their mind and made it pc/360 (money bags). Sony could easily do the same for DMC4/AC6 and any other company that's worked heavily with sony in the past. I think if sony offered a good amount of money, not extravegent, to capcom/namco, they would cancel the 360 version of DMC4 and AC6.

Wardevil: enigma was originall PS3/360.....but they dropped the 360 version so they could focus on 1 console.

ON A RELATED NOTE: I think AC6 is the "assassin creed case" where it was said to be exclusive from the get go, but it wasn't really....just kept under the covers, and the unannounced PS3 version was the 1 they built up from scratch.

Capcom/namco could realize that Sony was a huge part of their success as developers, and take whatever amount of money sony gives them to keep DMC4/AC6 PS3 exclusives (or keep DMC4 on the PC, which isn't half the threat that the 360 version is). And not accept a higher bid from microsoft.

KEEP IN MIND, mose japanese companies prefer sony over microsoft pretty heavily......and you can really expect square enix to keep FFXIII to stay PS3 exclusive for a few reasons. Square enix hates american made consoles. Sony owns 20% of square enix stocks. And square enix said they didn't want sony to be the overwelming winner, or the underwelming loser in the console wars, and the fact that they know microsoft has good 3rd party support makes them look like the underdog right now.

The root of all sony's problems is the PS3 price point. But they are working on that already. They are going to start using 65nm chips, take out a heating pipe (since the 65nm will generate less heat than the 90nm), take out the emotion engine, blu ray is becoming cheaper......and everything in general is becoming cheaper. Another big thorn in sony's side is the last gen PS2, which most of the people currently have still. Once the PS2 dies out (my guess around fall-holidays) most of the PS2 owners will upgrade to the PS3 going by brand name and the game series they love, and that they'll be able to play PS2 games on it. So...PS2 dies out around fall-holiday, a nice PS3 price drop around then will really rake in some PS3 sales.

Plus, if FFXIII uses alot of disc space, like 2 layers (50gb blu ray) then it'd take like 5-6 DVD9 disc to have the entire thing with uncompressed audio, video, textures, cut scenes, etc etc. And 5-6 discs for 1 game could be VERY EXPENSIVE, more so than 1 blu ray disc, and we're looking at bulk items here.

I could see FFXIIIVS coming to the 360...not this.

I agree heavyly with pkm2005's last point... if Square gave it's rights too a huge publisher... the FF games will become more shallower... with pointless ideas and bad gameplay.

I also like to point out, considering that Blu Ray is used in the PS3... developers have the challenge and freedom to create huge games and worlds, Squaresoft will use this to their advantage and with huge hits such as Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy series... this has already attracted the fans.

My opinion of the bad news is the PS3 sales, PS3 has gotten a good start, but compared to the Wii and Xbox 360, hasn't sold alot, if the PS3 sales won't good, developers wouldn't choose to make and marketer their games on the PS3. The good solution is Sony is good at marketing... so has a huge challenge Sony is up against.

excellent points and is SONY owning 20% of enix's stock is true then overall its safe to say that FFis staying exclusive to SONY. Only thing enix could do release it a year later on 360.

The only console PS# is lossing to is the Wii. The ps3 has sold more units so for in its first 4 months then the 360 has sold in its first 4 months. Yes 360 has a year head start but after a year the PS3 is out, its not going to make a difference because the PS3 will be selling a crap lot of units between the games that will be coming out and the strategy SONY will have such as price reduce which to me the only way it will reduce is the the cost of the blue ray and stuff but that comes in time with the electronics market

Square isn't exclusive as it is.

yep but if it wasnt for sony they wouldnt be a SquareEnix so thats why Final Fantasy has always been released on Playstation exclusively. So a Final Fantasy on Xbox is very unlikely. Unless MS buys them out.

Makes their Nintendo releases as of late baffling, huh? Square is a business. There isn't "loyalty" involved in business.

Well I think the VS fighting game might sell on 360. But I doubt FF13 itself will. Ever since Square broke it off with Nintendo, they've been apart of "The Playstation Image" since the huge Final Fantasy 7 thing. I think it would be weird to see a legit (YES LEGIT, 11/MMO doesn't count) Final Fantasy game on the 360. Also, a majority of the "Square-aholics" stick with Playstation, and I don't really think that would sit very well in Japan personally (and you know with most companies there, JAPAN COMES FIRST)

I think FF13 itself would be exclusive, but the spin offs might go multiplatform. Games like Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid are what defines Playstation pretty much, as far as 3rd party goes. As for other Square games unrelated to FF, I could care less where it goes.

Yes but the Japanese market is a small part of the Gaming world. Yes it is true that PS3 out sells the 360 in Japan but world wide the 360 has a larger user base. One of the reasons they would go multi-platform is to sell more copies of FF in order to make more money for the game they spent a lot of money to make. It makes sense that square would go multi-platform for financial reasons.

It is already clear that Square-E is not in for only the money like Capcom is now, it was clearly shown by the selection they have done in the immediate past and some of its future releases and were are not even counting FFXIII

EDIT :P

BTW you have a REALLY cool avatar it brought a lot of memories :)

ok guys i have been doin some research on how the arguements about whether FFXIII should be exclusive or not

i think it would be wise for Sony to secure this game as a exclusive because of three reasons

I own a ps3, original xbox, wii, ps2, gamecube, ds, gba, psp and already thinkin about getting 360

this is a gamers opinion

pkm2005

Owning all of those systems doesnt mean anything, you can still be a fanboy. People never realise that.

I plan on owning all of the systems too, and ill gladly admit im a Sony fanboy.

Square already has their most profitable Japanese franchise on a different platform (Dragon Quest is going to the DS).

Dragon Quest is not more profitable than FF. Besides handhelds dont count all that much.

But do you really think that FF will sell well on the 360

i mean i bet you many people bought the ps3 thinking about what kind of games that the systems is going to get and one of those games have to have been the next FF

Most of the FF fanbase is on the Sony brand and RPGs aren't really the 360's thing

pkm2005
RPG's weren't really the Xbox's thing. The 360 is showing that it can have more of a variety than the original Xbox. Sure the 360 still has a majority of shooters but the ratio is much smaller than last-gen. Also to say the FF fan base is on the Sony brand would be false as well. That fan base was on Nintendo 1st, then Sony. Most of them only have PS2's right now because a next-gen FF hasn't been released yet. If it is released on a cheaper system and is technically the same I think they may buy the cheaper one.
