I know that Europe is getting the emotion chip removed from the ps3, ok so doesn't that mean that we have the better PS3? Now, people say this has a benefit because they'll be able to upscale games to 720p-1080p...WHY? Thats the dummest thing i've ever heard, on the US PS3s they can just disable the emotion engine and run it off software emulation and it will do the same thing as the europe ps3s, so wheres all these sites getting that U.S. PS3s wont upscale and Europe ones will?

Phil Harrison said there's no way to disable the emotion engine with software.

Also its already been said the emotion engine is being replaced, with a much cheaper to make chip that would reroute the games to the cell.

I know that Euro and all future PS3's after April will have the Software emulation allowing for upscale, but isn't there suppose to be a firmware update to allow upscalling for the PS3's with the Emotion Engine?

the PS3 is incapable of upscaling PS1/PS2 games because it uses the actual processors for the PS2. the PS3 can't display PS1/PS2 games in HD for the same reasons that the PS2 can't display in HD. with the PS2 hardware removed and replaced with software, that limitation is gone. the games can now be upscaled to HD(or near HD). whether the US/Japan units will be able to take advantage of this, only time will tell.

Oh yeah and on another note, sony never said ps/ps2 games were going to upscale. Sites like ign said its very possible that this could happen, but it wasn't confirmed. Plus even ign only predicted it'd only be 480p.

Phil Harrison stated that certain PS1/PS2 games would be upscaled. He didn't elaborate as to which ones. I would venture to guess that most of the big first party titles will be upscaled.

the wii graphics suck but aleast they get there  software and hardware down before they release. that way they dont screw the consumer by changing hardware giving new console more functinalty and screwing early adopters

So what does this mean for uk then as far as ps2 games go, are they gonna run at same quality as meant, better quality or as i have heard, worse quality, im little bit miffed if the later but you never know what to believe. I have bought FF12 ready for Friday 23rd (our release date) but hope i dont need a ps2 to play this at the intended quality. Hope also that it will be compatible. Any info on this appreciated.

so how is this "screwing" early adopters? do you know for a fact that the software emulation will not work on the early adopter's PS3s?

All of this is rumor and internet gossip. I don't know what your sources are but I have never read anything by Phil Harrison saying that the original systems w/ the chips would be unable to upscale. In fact, the original press statement that I read made no reference to either of the console types and only mentioned that ps1/2 upscaling may become a possibility in the future via a firmware update.

I don't see how the Emotion Engine couldn't be bypassed on the first revision US PS3s. I give Sony engineers a little more credit than that. Emulation has surely been considered in PS3 development cycle and there is no way this option has been completely removed. Those people design hardware since a long time, they always leave an opened door for such alternatives.
