I like a good single campaign but once I finish it, I never come back so not only is online multiplayer essential for me, it's also the most important aspect of a game.

^ This. Atm, Killzone 2 has a pretty decent SP campaign which I know I'll be replaying over but I've yet to try out MP.

If the game offers a story with the single player, then I tend to gravitate towards that. I think I spent more time in Resistance 2 on the single player than the fantastic multiplayer.

It depends on the genre. That is a very vague question since all genres have completely different gameplay. Shooters most of the time are average in single-player and multiplayer is where it's at. I just got into multiplayer and FPSes so I've been getting my ass handed to me... Depends if I'm good for that day lol. RPGs never have multiplayer and single-player has hours upon hours of customization and fun. Fighting games get old fast and when strategic games are over they're over. A lot of games are doneafter single-player and offer no replay value. Depends on the game really.

i hardly ever play multi-player so it's an obvious single player vote for me. street fighter 4's online play is very cool though and i have high hopes for RE5!

Guess you missed the misplaced period in there, lol.

Anyways, SP is definitely more important. I haven't even touched the online in Killzone 2 yet. Also, offline multiplayer is a lot better than online multi-player. Its way more fun and is useful when having big get togethers. Rock Band wouldn't have made a dent in the industry if it didn't have offline Multi-player.

Kinda hard to say. I enjoy hogging all the glory by my lonesome, however, it never hurts to go online for an even greater challenge. I guess I would have to say multiplayer would be my favorite.

Single player for me. I don't know why but online multiplayer has never appealed to me.

I love local multiplayer though. I just wish more ps3 games supported it. Local co-op can sometimes make below average games seem more fun, even the new spyro game!

Both of them makes a truely great game. Neither should be neglected to make one better. COD needs to improve on single player for sure.

There is the argument that an FPS nowadays will need a good online multiplayer mode in order to compete with the likes of COD, KZ2 and Resistance.

However, I think the majority of games require a solid SP feature. It's the only side to a game which everyone can use. Some people don't have additional controllers (or no r/l friends into gaming, or just no r/l friend :/) and some don't have an Internet connection, so their gaming experience will be exclusively SP.

Also, a solid SP is the basis for good a MP mode. I think MP can be much more fun than SP a lot of the time, but every game needs a good SP mode - so therefore SP is much more important imo.

Multiplayer should be an afterthought. If multiplayer is the main part of the game then I just won't play it. Compelling stories and a variety of fun campagins is the best thing about playing games for me.

If life was fair and right in the world then MP would be fun but at least in SP you you don't have a bunch of crazy men running around spraying the walls with gunfire if any of that was real everyone of them would have been shot you don't see the AI acting like that,,,

Depends on the game I think. For probably about 90% of my games I will play the singleplayer more, but games like Burnout Paradise and Resistance FoM I put more time into the multiplayer. Which is odd because I don't usually play online much with my FPS's:P I never really get into it.

This may sound like a cop out but i would say both. the first game that comes to mind is MGS4 becasue i LOVED single player, but that only lasted like 20 hours, where as i have like 70 hours on MGO... thats all i have to say on the issue.

I don't really have anyone to play with and I don't like playing with people online so I like to play alone. So if the single player is bad then I'm not buying it.

Lol I know people who buy games then just play the online stuff, it's pretty sad to buy a game and not play the single player content. I myself always complete single player first and if I liked it, I'd play it again and if I had nothing left or found somethingtoo hard to do then I would play multi-player.

I definitely think multiplayer is important, single player can be misleading but multiplayer makes up for it. e.g Resistance 2

If it doesn't have multiplayer and then the single player is a bit poor then it's not worth a purchase.

Multiplayer definitely makes it for me.

Try reading the last section of The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner, it has page long sentences.

On topic, the SP is definitely the most important for me. The only MP I really care about is local, especially Co-op.

Single player without a doubt. I love to experience the ever more complex stories game developers are employing in their games. In saying this, I wish the focus hadn't shifted this gen to multiplayer. Story driven games of high calibre are few and far between.
