Its not what you think :D She is not that kind of dominating b*tch who breaks my ps3 if I dont listen her :D .. God no :D .. The problem is about my son . He is getting 7 next year and far I have seen he likes gaming . Sometimes we play together and he could easily beat any game on medium ( I think :D ) . So my wife just dont want me to play violent games because then my son want to play them . Ofcourse I understand her and that she cares about the boy but for me :D I dont know , so many good games are coming out like one what I have waited for a long time heavy rain .. But that game contains nudity , can't play that with my son :D And also we have one system so playing it secretly would be hard , almost impossible . So you ask what games do I have .. Mm I have skate 2 , fifa 09 , lbp , guitar hero ,ratchet & clank , dirt 2 , motorstorm and some of these kiddy games .. Got the system somewhere in summer . Yeah I know I'm missing a lot of great titles but afterall I got uncharted 2 and that's where the arguing start . That he is too young just yet and she dont want the kid to sit all day and play some games . We at his age were doing fine without videogames . I totally understand my wife and agree but just I'm missing so much .

You could get him a hobby that he would like and to keep him distracted while you play. I remember loving to play with Legos when I was around that age. I think that's the only cheap, viable option, other than just letting him play the violent games of course.

Play the more mature games when he's not around or in bed, get a pair of headphones perhaps, talk to him about why some games are off limits for him, store those games somewhere he can't get to them

get a divorse. the courts usually put the child in the care of the mother or at worst have a split custody agreement. play when your kid is at his mother's home. problem solved. another possible solution is to play the violent games at night when the kid is asleep. personally, id go for the first option.

If you use a little common sence and play games that are rated for adults or teenagers at a time when your son is sleeping or when ne's doing other things. Playing games is a way of staying close to you son as long as you have rules for him and yourself that your wife can agree with it will make everyone happy in the home.

Just let him play the Mature games! But explain to him that somethings in games are not really real or right to do in the real world. Thats pretty much it. The boy has to learn someday. 8)

I've been playing so called violent games like Resident Evil since I was around 7-8. It haven't affected me at all. As far as your kid is mentally stable, I doubt he will have any problems with violent games. Talk with your wife and explain this to her.

This, absolutely. Explain to her that this guy on this one gaming forum played Resident Evil when he was 7, and he said that it would be ok. Please upload her reaction on youtube.

If I play then he watch . And when he goes to sleep then I have some 2-3 hours and after that Im tired and want to go to bed . Still dont forget I'm a man who makes living and needs to wake early . And so that 2-3 hours my wife wants to spend some private and then there are just one thing to another . Ofc she maybe dont mind if I play at night but I can see that she dont like it . Yes she is also played and sayed "wow" "interesting" "awesome" but still she is not into games .. And yes there are several ways how I can play like for example if they're going to mall and then Im home alone but then I have to hide my adult game

You can just hide them some place high and play them at night or something. I'm pretty sure since he's getting older, he's not going to be around the house 24/7. Not with school, staying over at a friends house. That type of thing.

My parents use to do that with the more "adult" movies (not as in porn). Stuff like Nightmare On Elm Street and Friday The 13th or any gore horror movie. We only had one VCR and they watched those movies at night or on their own time. I could understand not exposing your son to that yet, but it doesn't mean you as an adult, have to be completely shut out either. Anything can be managed if you allow it. I knew well enough not to go near those movies when I was around that age as my mom was very strict about that. I honestly don't see much of a difference with this situation. Not many things are different between video games and movies these days and I'm pretty sure you and your wife have at least one movie not suitable for minors.

Just don't let him play online. Either that, or cut the mic and play in silence.

How awful for a wife to think about the welfare of a 7 year old rather than her husband's games! :P It's called priority. If your 7 year old is beating you at your own games, then I think it's time that you let him out of the house and see the sun once in a while, or do something else together not involving video games.

This is why this generation of kids are called "teacup children" by psychologists. We are raising a bunch of pansies! I have 4 kids and I give them the option to watch me play violent games but they usually don't want to (oldest is 8). I gave them The Grudge on the Wii and they are all too scared to even play past the intro. They will decide when they are ready for that. Drake's Fortune though? That's not what I'd call over the top violence. It's an amazing story too. Didn't you watch Indiana Jones as a kid? That's more violent with people chopped by propellers, hearts ripped out, etc. I wouldn't play GTA and let them watch as my only goal is to pick up hookers, have sex with them, then ghost ride them into oncoming traffic. Hey...that sounds fun! Later.

Just keep the more mature games put away for when you have time to yourself. No reason not to buy the games, just don't play them in front of your son and he won't even know you have them, therefore he won't want to play them. Maybe just have some daddy alone time at nights when your son goes to bed :P

OP, this is rediculous what you just wrote here, how are you gonna just let your wife control what games to play or not. Does she also tell you what channels not to watch with the kid in sight?

There are many MANY shwos on tv that show violence, adult situations and other mature content that you kids most likely saw already. To me it is much better that you EDUCATE your child (and your wife in this matter) and let them know that what you see in those video games are NOT real. Back when I was much younger, I used to play violent games like Mortal Kombat 2 and Killer Instinct and my mom did not restrict me to play it, I am consious that what I'm playing is not real and it is jst for fun, I'm not gonna go out there and start to cut somone's head off of just because I seen it in a video game. You are probably much older than me and you are being *bleep"* whipped by your wife for a few harmless video games? Two words my friend, MAN UP.

Hmm, my parents let me play violent video games when I was about 11, as long as there was no nudity. I would probably wait a few years and make sure he's mature enough.

Hmm. I agree with the guy that said to grow a pair when it comes to your wife, and with the other dude who spoke of todays children as pansies. With all due respect, your wife needs to chill out a bit. Uncharted is nothing in the violence department. Dear lord, ask her if Peter Pan should be kept from him because it has (gasp) guns. She should make an informed decision before simply stating something that is obviously causing resentment.

And on that note, grow a pair. Obviously don't play games/watch movies that contain buckets of blood and gore, hardcore swearing, and sexual scenes. If a game/movie doesn't contain any of those, then no harm, no foul. So GTAIV is obviously a no, but as for Uncharted, go nuts.

Well there isn't a quick fix short of buying a separate gaming system and monitor and old la-z-boy and setting yourself up in the basement. (note to self, good idea). If the wide is against it, it's doubtful you'll be able to convince her otherwise. Maybe you can introduce "reading hour" for your kids where 5-6 times a week they need to read for one hour every night. Send them to their rooms and you can play all you want. Sell it to the wide that your interested in their education. :D

Actually, you can buy all the violent games you want and set a security settings so he cant log in to the violent games or get online, if he can't even watch, then you gotta stick with the kiddie games...

Yeah I talked with my wife . I told him that uncharted is innocent game and if he gets older he is gonna see it very often and better is to sit together and play together and talk about these things . He is not gonna be able to play it alone , only with me . So we made an agreement but only so long as it wont affect anything . If he behave good and dont swear and next year the grades are good then it should be ok .. Still I dont think my wife likes heavy rain nudity :D

Option 1: Tell her to get over it. It might seem like OMFGWTF terrible that your son pretends his finger is a gun sometimes but let's be realistic. Every little boy in the world is obsessed with guns and violence. It's in those old hunter genetics of ours. No child is going to become a deranged killer based on 'Uncharted'. You can't escape violence. What's the most popular kids show at the moment? Ben 10 - A show about a child becoming a bunch of monsters for the sole purpose of violence. Ben 10 is everywhere. Yes, that's still violence. Stop trying to shelter your child and give him some credit. Put the violence in context for him.

Everyone here raise your hand if you played something violent as a child. Mortal Kombat, Doom, Duke Nukem, Jazz Jackrabit, Splatterhouse, Castlevania, Resident Evil? When I was about five years old I was obsessed with Terminator and used to go around pretending I was the Terminator. Do you know what I do now that I'm all grown up? I work in child care!

Violent entertainment is not a problem if you're doing your job and being a parent. And that's not something you're doing by hiding the world from your child.

Option 2: Play whatever games you want. Just wait until the kid is in bed.

TC, tell your wife to go make you a sandwich and stop bothering you. Women should very well know their place.

get a divorse. the courts usually put the child in the care of the mother or at worst have a split custody agreement. play when your kid is at his mother's home. problem solved. another possible solution is to play the violent games at night when the kid is asleep. personally, id go for the first option.LoG-Sacrament

Lol.

Well yeah I'd go for the idea of you playing late while your son is asleep :D it's better that way

My dad has an issue about violent games because of the potential influence of me for instancejoining the army or becoming a boxer both of whichI wouldn't even do if I were paid £1bn ayear yet the simulation of playing as a boxeror army officer is quite enjoyable. My dad set upthe PS3 in the living room wherehe works or reads or just sits downbut as he works every weekday,I playthe games I wouldarguably be missing out on such as COD4which I boughtfrom a friend at school without telling my dad (i know'sneaky')during the week and during the weekend I play games like FIFA10, Virtua Tennis,Dirt 2, Burnout etc.
